What a great question. It's almost like you took a statement, and put a question mark after it. I'm going out on a limb now, but I'll just say... it was a man using a gun that killed those people! Wait, no, it was Mr. Plumb in the dining room with a candlestick!

A gun is merely a tool. A person must work the controls if it is to be aimed at a specific target, and a bullet is to be ejected in the target's direction. That makes it a tool, or a machine.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

The boy you speak of was quite mad. If he had no gun, he would probably have built and used bombs, and even more folks might be dead. Improbable you say? No sir, no more than the murders of those 32 people.

I say the same thing. People kill people. Guns could be outlawed, but there will still be idiots and mentally disturbed people in this world. I have a large collection of both handguns and rifles. I do not shoot people or any other living things, and I never will unless my life or safety is in danger. I just enjoy collecting guns, and shooting at targets.

People who want to kill will find another way if they dont have a gun. There are explosives, knives, strangulation, etc.

I've never heard of any gun donning a ballistic vest, grabbing extra ammunition, plotting and planning, and then launching an assault on a college campus. Guns are inanimate objects.

Box cutters are inanimate objects and yet over 3000 people were killed as a result of box cutters getting by security. For that matter it was actually the planes that were used to do the damage on 9-11.

The point is that people perpetrate these crimes. Insane and deeply, deeply troubled people, not inanimate objects.

If we are going to destroy all guns then lets also destroy all planes and box cutters and kitchen knives and 2x4s and rope and rocks and........

Same as automobiles. More people are killed with cars than guns.

My question is why do we not pay attention to these people who exhibit signs of mental illness for months, sometimes years before they snap. Why do we just tolerate their anti-social behavior and ignore their obvious sociopathic tendencies? Oh, that's right... we don't want to abuse their right to privacy or their civil rights.

This isn't about guns. This is about a society that is more afraid of offending someone who has a mental problem than protecting innocent lives.

A young man who refuses to even sign his name on the college class register (instead uses a question mark) needs to be dealt with, not ignored and whispered about.

I agree with Cho, the first poster...... Even in the case of 'accidental' deaths, guns were either placed in the wrong positions, places, and loaded..or were not cleaned properly. People kill people, and a gun doesn't necessarily have to be the tool of choice. Low crime rates are not relative to the legality or ownership of guns. Low crime rates are relative to population and our copy-cat nature. Watch out for more of the same! Seriously. People get an idea in their head from someone else...2 weeks. Some people need serious help.

The thing is, we have extensive gun control laws in place! He wanted to take people out in his going out, its a mindset. He would have taken them out another way if he didn't have a gun, I betcha.

People kill people. What's so hard to figure out? What if 32 people had been poisoned? Or blown up with a bomb? Jim Jones conned hundreds of people into drinking Kool-aid. He was still a mass-murderer. Charles Manson is a mass murderer and he wasn't even there; the Manson Family used knives. People. Kill. People.

A gun can't fire itself. A gun can't pick up ammunition and point itself as a target and fire. That requires a person. People kill people. That's just like saying that cars kill people. Cars don't kill people. People driving the cars kill people.

I agree with the phrase "people kill people"...if there was not a person behind the gun then, well, the gun can't go off by itself.
