If Iran was invaded would it result in World War 3?

If the US in its infinite stupidity invaded Iran then Yes it would because they, unlike Iraq, CAN fight back. Do we really have any idea how far along they are in their nuclear program? No and a company that was working on finding that out was dismantled by the very government that was supposed to keep it secret- Brewster Jennings.
Then the other countries in the region will join in because the US pre-emptively attacked a country that did not attack them and then would be seen as doing it again in Iran. The region will itself feel as if their country might be next and that will send up the powder keg that is already smoldering in the Middle East. Countries like Russia and China will probably support Iran, because the US has been alienating the Russians ( good going) and chaos will spread around the globe.
If we "nuke em" as some rabid people here would say, then there would be retaliation and then no one will survive except the politicians in their underground fortified bunkers. The rest of the world's population will cease to exist. Hell of a wake up call ain't it?

WORLD war means that many countries become involved in a conflict. If China and Russia back Iran that would mean WW3 and possibly the end of the world. We couldn't handle a war with all three nations.

Iran would attack Israel. They see Israel as being the USA. We would of course defend Israel at any cost. Yes WW3. Now tell me. I don't think that's far-fetched at all....I believe that we're currently setting the stage/in the beginning stages of WW3. no. Iran is unlikely to call upon many other nations to come to its aid. I can only see Syria being the only Islamic country who might be willing to intervene on its behalf. Two countries which I would not say have the comparative military might of Japan and Germany did in relative terms during the Second World War. Also any conflict would be confined to the Middle East and thus could not be properly referred to as a 'world' war but rather a regional conflict much like Israels wars with its Arab neighbours during the 60s.
