With this questioni was trying to come from the point of view that God is a father figure that people want, like a perceived safety net for believers.

Peter L - You can't prove a negative, just as you can't prove that you're God isn't a pink elephant. Whilst we can't disprove God, we can develop theories (which are better because they are reviewed and changed to be more accurate,) that make God unecessary (sorry spelling mistakes).

Minerva - Good answer. But, like me you have made fatal assumptions yourself; That the Bible is a valid source of information, that Jesus himself wasn't a egomaiac cult leader (people do die for egomainac cult leaders), and that I haven't researched the psychology of religion - it's crazy stuff.

God will always be God whether some like it or not. You can choose to believe and be blessed or not to believe and live with that curse. God will never be gone we'll be luck if we get to be gone from this world.

Pyscology is defined as: "Scientific study of human behavior, mental processes, and how they are affected and/or affect an individuals or group's physical state, mental state, and external environment. It's goal is to describe, understand, predict, and modify behavior. "

But how did the human behavior come about? Certainly not out of thin air, you could understand why some things are happening (even though at times it's almost impossible to determine the reason) but how could you explain their actual happening? Everything around us was created by and for God, everything has a reason, after a certain period of time we could understand why they were created but how can you explain their actual creation, how they were created?

There is nothing on the face of this earth that could ever eliminate the need for Religion and God because those are what essentially make up the human nature and the entire world...people could deny it as much as possible but everywhere around you there are millions of examples to support the existence of God and how could God send his message if not for Religion? Everything else is just there because us humans have an insatiable need for knowing things and God is simply helping us in satisfying that need...but does your understand of how or why a DVD player works eliminate your need for a DVD player or the manufacturer of that DVD player? No...it's basically the same idea except that there is only one creator of the world as opposed to the thousands of DVD player manufacturers.

No, there would be no psychology if there were no God. If you want to eliminate God, then prove he isn't real. When has anybody ever been able to prove that God isn't real? No one can do it. We change science all the time, and we update our technology often, but the only time the Bible has been affected is when people have made different translations. The Bible's main message has never changed, science has changed probably hundreds of times through out it's history. Ideas in psychology have changed as well.

Most likely we will never see the end of religion. People will always worship a god--tangible or otherwise. Do you think with a greater understanding of pyschology we will ever eliminate the need to judge people on the basis of the religion or lack thereof? I only ask because I think your question upset a few people.

Well, it depends on if you are even one who believes in an afterlife. Religion serves as a purpose to explain "after death" and it also works as a tool in Terror Management Theory. TMT states that in bad times, you will revert to what you know best. For example, after 9/11 churches had waiting lines like American Idol was having auditions there.

God created all issues, governs all issues, and that the creature could be obedient and grateful to the author; that the author demands particular issues, and that the guy who complies with those demands is non secular. faith teaches the slave-virtues -- obedience, humility, self-denial, forgiveness, non-resistance. Lips, non secular and anxious, tremblingly repeat this passage: "nevertheless he slay me, yet will I have faith him." it truly is the abyss of deterioration. faith would not practice self-reliance, independence, manliness, braveness, self-defence. faith makes God a grasp and guy his serf. The grasp won't be able to be super sufficient to make slavery candy.it extremely is concern. concern builds the altar and provides the sacrifice. concern erects the cathedral and bows the pinnacle of guy in worship. concern bends the knees and utters the prayer. concern pretends to love.

I don't think so. There can always be both. I think that understanding psychology can help a person with their understanding of G-d, and the concept of autonomy. Of course, there are always those on the extreme ends of either side of a discussion, so it may suit them to be without either of them.

Some men will always have a need for something to explain the unexplainable. Psychology will never answer all the questions.

You are making a lot of assumptions.

1. God does not exist. 2. People invented God to make themselves feel better. 3. We don't need God to be happy.

1. Sorry, but God does exist. If you say you don't believe in God, I will ask you, "Okay. What kind of God don't you believe in?" and if you can give a description, I might just say, "That too is a God I don't believe in." If you can create a God within your own understanding then that God cannot be great enough for your needs!

2. People did not invent God. Has any religion that worship God claim to have God speaking to them? Did you make a study of what their God told them to make an assessment? Did you bother to find out if there is any truth in their beliefs and upon what they base their beliefs?

3. We do need God to be happy because He made us this way. Psychology is the study of human traits and behaviour. If God really exists outside of humankind, and is not created by the mind of Man, then the God we are looking for must have a far superior existence to have created man to exist with all his human thinking and intelligence.

In other words, God created human nature, and knows human psychology. Have you ever read the parables of Jesus?

You will find them describing the human condition and behaviour and reactions exactly and accurately.
Most of Jesus stories are about people who resemble us. Reading their reactions and thoughts and actions makes you say, "Say, that's me!" You would expect our Maker to know us completely and thoroughly.

Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. This is different from you and me saying we are all sons of God. He meant that he came from God and was therefore made from the same essence as his Father. He was also God, sharing the Father's Godhood.

This was the only reason Jesus was killed. Being God he could rise from the dead again. This is so incredulous that most people do not believe it. They are like the Pharisees and scribes who looked at this impoverish man coming for the lowest class of society (the anawim) mixing with a lot of scoundrels and badhats and loose women, and dismiss him as being NOT their idea of what God should be like.

#1 His followers, who were cowards and abandoned him when he died, did two astounding things.

They went out bravely to preach after he died, and rose and went up to Heaven. He sent them another godly person he called the Holy Ghost who filled them with courage and knowledge. Is this likely to happen to this bunch of cowards unless God exists to give them this transforming grace?

#2 They carried it so far that they went gladly to their deaths. Right into the last century when more Christians died for their faith than in the whole of history before the 20th century began. Why? Because they keep proclaiming that Jesus is God and for this they are hated.

I want to proclaim that I believe God is with us, in the person of the living Jesus who rose from the dead. He is physically not with us in human form because he has a strange glorified body that can go through walls. Maybe we don't have the words to describe where he is. To say he is in heaven and on earth at the same time, or in the sixth dimension, is to use words to describe something we can't understand.

I believe because He said he was God. And he did a lot of miracles to prove he can control nature completely if he chooses to. Even those who came to arrest him were thrown back by a force to the ground. So when they took him away, we know he went willingly, and could have escaped any time but chose not to. He went along with their plans for his death.

This is to rise again, to prove he can conquer anything, even death, since he was and is God. His followers believe it.

Now, either Jesus was mad, or he was God.
His followers were either insane, or they were convinced they knew the truth that He was God.
I see they were willing to die for this belief. Why would anybody die for a lie? Can this mean they were not lying?

Now, who are we who think that if we can one day think away and eliminate the need for Jesus, or any kind of God, we would be perfectly happy to do without Him?

You can see how sick the human mind is, and how cloudy our thinking and how imperfect is our logic. Who among us is the wise and perfect and wonderful person who can cook up a psychology where you can explain God away and then we all will live happily ever after? Do you think mankind can find a source of happiness within ourselves?

People are chasing money, possessions, perfect love and pleasures. They are obsessed with all their addictions: sex, money, power, games, porn. They have all forgotten God and are unhappy. The more they look for happiness in these places, the more hollow and empty they get. And they don't know why. Turn to God? Ho-hummm.

What about the miracles God keeps working? If He is there, (YoooHooo, GOD! ANSWER US!) don't you think he would communicate with us? Is He still around and communicating with us?

You can go to this website and read about a fantastic modern miracle at "Divine Mercy Miracles"

God Bless You! Even if you don't want to believe in Him! You must admit that if you were God, it would be helluva difficult to explain to people to prove who you are.

If you really were God, what would you do to reveal yourself to all mankind? It would be very, very hard.

No, because God is real and man will never really totally understand psychology.
