I honor your distress; I feel it too. But there is more to the story.
When the Nazis started to persecute the Jews, other countries did not respond. They may not have liked it, but they didn't go to war over it. Only when the Nazis started invading other countries did other countries fight. And by the end of WWII, the majority of the Jews in the world was dead.
It is rare for any country to invade another merely due to internal injustice. And when it does happen, the results are not often very successful. Look at the history of UN actions.
The actions in Afghanistan are relatively small, almost nothing compared to WWII. Their purpose is to prevent greater carnage later on. Kind of like the controlled burns carried out by forest rangers to prevent bigger fires later.
Of course, this tactic may not be very successful either.
But there is so much violence in the world that even the US couldn't possibly end it all.

The Jews were being exterminated for years before the US actually got involved in WW2. Millions died before we batted an eye. And our government knew about it. We didn't join the war effort to save the Jews. Countries go to war out of self-interest. If there's something in it for them, they may be compelled to fight. It is never out of an altruistic willingness to sacrifice. If the US sees a financial or political opportunity, then they might do something about the genocide in the Sudan. But sadly, I don't see it happening. They never did **** about Rwanda.

We learn in history class that the reason we study about WWII and Hitler's slaughter of millions is so that we are equipped with a wisdom to never allow something like this to happen again.
Well, it's happened several times since my history class some 30 years ago.
It's disgusting!
Look to God alone because man will fail us time and time again. This is my only solace. Pray for the people in the Sudan. This will help give you some peace, handing them over to Him. He will hear your cries, people on yahoo answers... They won't hear you the way God will.

seek the state of Texas - David Koresh had a gaggle of people held up in a cult, Waco, Texas. The compound replaced into burned down from the interior, like a suicide ingredient. branch Davidian, perhaps. in yet another united states Jim Jones had Gianna (guy anna), with the kool-aide stuff. Definately, Sadam Husseine (?spelling?)

ACTUALLY WE LET THIS GO ON AND DID WITH THE NAZIS. WE DIDN'T GET INVOLVED UNTIL PEARL HARBOR. WE DON'T GIVE A RAT'S @SS ABOUT OTHERS LIKE THIS
Also, as far as the lack of talk about it, there were some efforts, but not by the news. For example, ER for about 3 seasons did story arcs where a couple of their doctors were there trying to help with Doctors Without Borders.

You said it yourself. Sudan doesn't have oil. That's the way it is.
The U.S. didn't enter WWII for the Jews' sake either. The U.S. entered because the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
Governments of the West, unfortunately, do not base their policies on what is ethically or morally right; they merely lie and say they do.

My guess is that you are against the war in Iraq.
But, you want us to go into the Sudan with our troops and fight those who do the killing there. Have I got this correct?
Do you see any inconsistency with your ideas?
