If she's confident in how the relationship is going, then by all means she should go for it. Instead of getting a ring, how about a nice engagement watch? It doesn't have to be super expensive; perhaps in the $100 range. Heck, Queen Victoria proposed marriage to Prince Albert, but that was because she was a queen and he was a prince so it was a status thing.

My husband asked me on my birthday. He made a huge ring out of cardboard - not just the ring part, but the diamond part also. He scored the white cardboard and folded and taped it in such a way that it looked like a little Epcot Center Ball. He put my ring box in that. After I opened it and cried he asked me to be his bride. He actually videotaped the presentation! I just love that little nerdy math side of him.

My fiance proposed in private after ha had bought me dinner at a nice restaurant. He was going to ask me at the restaurant, but he felt like he was going to start crying and wanted to wait until we could be alone. We were alone in my Mothers basement watching TV when he proposed this last February. He didn't cry much at all... just a tear. however I was a teary mess, so I'm glad he waited for some privacy.

First time I asked her was on Christmas morning .I bought her about 30 really cheesy gifts . I purposely hid the smallest one so she would open it last . As she was getting semi-frustrated with all the crappy presents she got to the last present , the ring , when she opened it , I asked her to marry me.

We went out on a Friday, as usual, to our karaoke bar. He was called up first to sing, and before they started the music, he called me up to stand with him. He said that I had agreed to become his wife and he wanted to make it official. So on bended knee, he presented me with the ring I had picked out and asked me right there, in the bar, with everyone watching, over the microphone. Our second anniversary is this June.

We were sitting on a bench at the river walk and he said "What would you say if I asked you to marry me"? I kinda looked at him funny and said "What"? He then grabbed my hand and said "Will you marry me"? I said "Are you kidding"? He said "NO, I'm serious". I then said "yes".

He was just blunt and unromantic. He just asked straight up. I'm shocked I said yes after that one!
