I always wondered, why we would have people decide about our countries future, if they have reached their zenit 20 years ago and now just wait to die. Supreme court judges, Presidents, Generals, Senators.... If you know, you are not going to see the results of your bad decisions, why would you care?

No one knows when their time is up. If a person is sound in mind and body, then they should be allowed to hold office.

It's weird Younger people that call older people just an obstacle forget or don't know that the older people that are holding office or are ranking officers are some of their generations smartest and brightest . Granted there are exceptions, but you realize as you get older, you have experienced and you have thought about a lot more of life's realities than someone in there teens and twenties . You might have heard someone say they thought their parents were dumb until I started a family and was amazed at how smart they really were. I felt the same way when younger, But I have seen more and lived through more than I could have ever have imagined then. And I see how misinformed about life I really was .

Wow, I suppose under your view of things they ought to just commit suicide now because their lives really have no purpose.

Perhaps on the other hand, since by definition older people have more experience with life, they can provide wisdom and ideas because they know that they will not outlive them. They might just be concerned about leaving the world in better shape than it was when they arrived. They might just care because they want their lives to amount to more than a self serving existence.

Perhaps it's because the older you get, the more opportunities you have to accumulate wisdom. The way you get to be "old" is by figuring out ways to survive. Not very many people just hang around "waiting to die". As far as "reaching their zenith" ( I assume you meant "zenith" though your spelling is off), who are you to make that call? I pray that you will live long enough to grow a little wisdom, if not empathy.

Because. . .

No one can state with certainty how long someone has to live. If the doctors state 15 years, who is to say that they don't live for 25? Likewise, if a doctor states they will live a long and healthy life, who is to say they don't die that very night? There is only one that knows the date that we are to expire, and last time I heard, that being isn't on this earth.
