Just the portion that's dependent on the value of the car - they often call it ad valorem tax. Some states have it, some don't.

If a factor of the fee is a tax based upon the fee of the motor vehicle, that tax is deductible as own assets tax in case you itemize. in any different case the expenses are actually not deductible. some states base the tax on motor vehicle length or weight, "taxable horsepower" or another metric. those taxes are actually not deductible. basically taxes based upon the fee of the motor vehicle are deductible.
