I currently have a dishwasher air gap correctly installed by the homebuilder. I'm going to install a reverse osmosis water system, so I'm going to remove teh air gap, and replace it with the purified water dispenser.

My question is, what do I need to do to bypass the air gap, and have the DW empty out directly into the disposal? An air gap is not required in my area. My home inspector went over it briefly with me, but stupid me, I wasn't paying close attention.
Thanks!

All you are doing, is routing the drain hose, as high up under the cabinet as possible. This helps to prevent drain water from the sink, from backing up into the dishwasher. I use electrical tie straps, and tie it to the clips used to hold the sink in place. If the sink has no clips, use a tie with a screw hole attachment. Good luck!

Yes, what you have is a high drain loop. A few years ago Air Gaps were a big thing and many Plumbing Codes required them. After a while, they found that they didn't work that well and often clogged up. This Code was changed back to Drain Loops in many areas. I have done work in Ohio, Florida and Arkansas and never installed an Air Gap.

What you are doing is an upside down trap. The discharge hose comes out near the bottom of the unit and you drill a hole as close to the top of the cabinet by the sink. The disposer is probably15" or so off the bottom of the cabinet. Tie the discharge hose into the disposer and it will have an automatic loop.

here is a link with a picture. It is on page 12. IT is in PDF format. You want to get it as high as possible. one problem you might have is that you might have to replace your hose. Because you need more hose to do the loop. You could attach some kind of splice i guess.
