Looks like you need another equation if you're trying to solve for both x and y.
If you're trying to put in standard linear format, then solve for y as a function of x:
add y to both sides, then subtract 3 from both sides.
y = 5x-3

Since you have 2 unknowns you can't solve for x or y with only 1 equation.

If you have 2 equations you can solve an equation with two unknowns.

y intercept

x = 0

5x - y = 3

5(0) - y = 3

- y = 3

-1(- y ) = - 1(3)

y = - 3

When x = 0, y = - 3

- - - - - - - s-
