The war started because communism was seeking to expand in Vietnam much the way it had attempted to expand in Korea, and the USA had a policy to containment, to hold the communists to what they had without expanding, and they were also afraid that if Vietnam became communists, so would other nearby countries, falling like a series of domino's to the communists.

Communism was thought to expand. The United States disliked that concept, so they put troops in Vietnam. North Vietnam was communist while south Vietnam was capitalist. I disliked the Vietnam war since that's the only war that the United States wasn't prepared for and I disliked how that sprayed the agent orange chemical so that trees/vegetation would die.

Amid rumors of a possible American invasion, Japanese oust the French colonial government on March 9, 1945. They kick out the French Colonial Government, installing Bao Dai who became known as their puppet ruler. The following summer severe famine plagued Hanoi and outlying areas, resulting in two million deaths out of a population of ten million. There was a peasant revolt against the Japanese and remaining members of the French colonial society. Ho Chi Minh benefited from the turmoil and thus his Viet Minh movement began to catch on.

America was involved in Vietnam supporting the French Colonial regime in the Indo China war in the 50s sending weapons to the french army, and After the french were defeated by the Vietcong and left Vietnam the United States send advisors and divided up the Country and stopped the Country wide election that was agreed upon if the election had happen and Ho chi Minh become President they would be no Vietnam war, Millions of innocent wouldn't have died, 58.000 Americans would have not died either, so basically America wasn't fighting for Freedom but to Support a Colonialist regime. The Vetcong were fighting for Freedom for their country, How you think America got it's Freedom oh yea through violence and war and Bloodshed not by being peaceful.
