Some electrical sensors need a good grounding contact to operate correctly, so they use a "dielectric" type of lubricant to allow good contact when the part is installed. The oxygen sensor is a perfect example.

The so called "grease" is actually a metal based anti seize, which is either copper based, or nickel based lubricant.

When you have something like steel attached to aluminum copper grease will keep them from seizing.

if the grease has metal that is softer than the steel

it can act a lubricant, sometimes sort of coating the parts

we used copper grease in high heat applications it prevented galling.
