Millard Fillmore Society, 43 N. Madison Ave., Spring Valley, N.Y. 10977
. . . Founded in 1963 "to perpetuate the memory of the 13th President, holding his actions as exemplary examples of inconsistency." Members point out that Fillmore, "the most forgotten President of the U.S.," was "the 1st to establish the White House Library, the 1st to have a bathtub, an iron cookstove, and a stepmother." Sponsors an annual birthday party for Fillmore on January 7 and a national essay contest. Topic: "What would America be today had there been no Millard Fillmore?"--cash prizes are awarded to winners. Holds a yearly Millard Fillmore Day at Shea Stadium to raise funds so that institutionalized children can attend a New York Mets baseball game. A donation to the society entitles one to membership. Will soon publish a magazine, Milestones with Millard. 15 chapters.
