Partly the mirror and partly the image we have inside. I think having a good self image reflect in our attitude and in the mirror

Picture are usually not natural. There is often a flash which tries to light everything up and does often ruin how we really look.

However the picture may be capturing facial expressions or body positions we do not realize that we do and tha makes the picture look "bad". If that is the case, you can practice better expressions in a mirror so you pictures will look better.

I believe some people are good looking when they pose for shots but when you look yourself in the mirror you are asking yourself what do you look like. You get to know the real you when you stir in the mirror and get exact reflection of you which often shows what is bottled up on the inside of you through the expressions your face reflects. In photographs, you tend to hid emotions to look good so the next fellow may be impressed.

A mirror is actually showing you a REVERSE of your true self. The photo shows you what others see, or the true image.

You can create a TRUE IMAGE mirror, by placing two mirrors at right angles to eachother. YOur TRUE image will appear at the apex or corner.

Actually because there is a mirror in mors DSLR's and SLRS which professionals use, I think the image you see are the same. Its more of how the brain associates your mirror image to your photo image.

The difference between a picture and a mirror is that the picture is one second in time. The mirror is more like a videocamera. It displays what you look like over the period of time that you are looking at it.

Cant answer your question sorry, but I know exactly what you mean. I flat out refuse to have my photo taken anymore cos I look so-o-o bad in photographs!! What you see, and what other people see when looking at you is not what you see in a split second photograph

Look at a picture of Hawai'i. It's pretty. Now go to Hawai'i and see it in live action. Which is better, the picture or seeing it live? Okay, there's your answer!

Both its just cameras dont position themselves in a way we always like to be veiwed at best. If you are caught unaware by a camera it usually is a nicer picture as you are more relaxed, well that is what i have found.
