This stems from a story on the news tonight about a pedofile that admitted before and during his release that he WILL reoffend, yet the community aren't informed!? Are we violating these violators rights? They probably should have thought of that before taking all those children's rights away..

Not that it matters much in my own opinion, but my state law requires a minimum of 2000 feet from any school, daycare, or facility where there are on-going juvenile activities. A pedophile can easily travel to or from such a distance with little or no effort.

There is also a requirement to notify local residents within the same predetermined distance of the offenders residence.

My feeling is that the honest law abiding citizen is further victimized having to "allow" this pathetic type to reside within the community. What are the alternatives...none to my knowledge!

Just with the "threat" of having the desire to repeat the offense...I'd say lock the offender up permanently!

Sadly, I don't make the laws....I just have to enforce them!

Best wishes!

I agree with you. Children are so precious, and they should be protected. Pedofiles that get relocated near schools and playgrounds is wrong. The kids should definitly know that there are scary people around the corner. I know that if you "tell" on pedofiles, that it will "hurt their feelings" and pointing them out, when they are trying to start over. No matter what, the public needs to know about them. If they have truely changed their ways, then the public will find out either way. Many people will not go towards them, but the public comes first, then them.

Every state has different requirements, and some states (like mine -MS) send out postcards to everyone within a certain radius of the address the person registers. But the information is always available to anyone that wants it on the web. Every state has its own website, and there are many sites out there that offer links for all the states' sites. The info couldn't be more readily available for those who want to know, and for those without internet access, they can use the net at their local library, or even call the local police to ask.

People who are concerned should take it upon themselves to find out this stuff. Lawmakers and law enforcement cannot hold our hands 24-7. The real problem is when the offenders don't register at all, that is what we should be focusing on more - finding the ones who are trying to fly under the radar.

I personally believe that pedophiles should be grouped in their own community off in some isolated area where no children live. I think warning signs should be posted on all roads leading into and out of this community warning parents of that fact that this community is where convicted sex offenders reside. I further think that anyone convicted a second time should be given life without the possibility of parole. I think it's high time we as a community speak up for the sake of our kids and say enough is enough. We don't want them anywhere that has access to children.

They changed the laws again? When I was stationed in Va they where not aloud to relocated to those places and have to register on the offenders list and that is public axis. the same goes for here in WI. What gives with this. Did they really change the laws?

Money.
Morality and justice are extinct. Prisons are paid according to the number of inmates housed there in the previous year. To ensure job security repeat offenses are encouraged in many ways. greed doesn't care about what is right or wrong, just how much it pays.
