Recently our town had the middle school students go through a drill. A week later a man with a gun attempted to get in and the school went into lockdown. While everyone was safe, some of the kids received detention for talking to each other because creating noise could have identified their potential location to the would-be shooter. In the wake of Virginia Tech, these students now know how their behavior would have affected them.

Would you be prepared to not only keep yourself safe but those around you as well?

I don't know if anyone can ever truly be prepared for something of this magnitude. All you can do is to keep yourself aware of people and events around you, train yourself as much as possible, ie, first aid, CPR, self-defense, etc. and if someone needs to talk we need to be available to listen.

Most of all, make sure to live everyday as if it were your last. It's a cliche, but we need to say "I love you" to our loved ones every day, we need to never hold a grudge, we need to talk about our feelings and be aware of others' feelings, and just enjoy the beautiful things in life. We think we have all the time in the world, but we don't.

I guess one could never truly know how they would react in a situation such as that until it truly happens...no matter how many drills they go through. That being said, prior to this happening, different departments of the university in which I work have had drills and in the wake of the Monday's events, more are planned.

I pray that neither myself nor any of my family ever have to find out.

I am pretty pulled together and calm in a emergency situation so, yes I think I could take care of the situation if I needed to. But, I do not think anyone really knows until they are placed in such a situation.

I continue to pray for the all those involved in this disaster, their family and friends. Many hero's emerged during this crisis.
