Any dream interpreters out there? I had a really odd one last night. A large tortoise would run and climb a tree really fast - get half way up and fall backwards landing on it's back and cracking it's shell. After it's second run and subsequent fall it apparently cracked its shell badly and I had the impression that it was fatally wounded. That's where the dream ended...with the tortoise on it's back. The tree that it was runing up was like a double tree - or two identical trees growing next to each other with very scaly bark. It was a big land tortoise, but had claws like a smaller turtle, I remember them scratching against the bark. Also - this is the best. It had a bumper sticker on its back that read "try me a hooters" - honestly, like you could get turtle at hooters or something. I couldn't possibly make this stuff up. The overall feeling was sad - I wanted to stop the turtle after it's first run but it was too big to stop.

No, I'm not looking to work at Hooter's ... interesting thought though.

These responses are interesting. Dating seems to come up as a theme. So, wanted to add that I'm married.

The tortoise could represent a person or thing in your life that is seen as large but harmless. The idea of you watching it attempt to do something seen as impossible shows that this person or thing is heading for an impossible task and you are seeing failure. It falling represents what you already suspect and seeing it hurt you feel that this person or thing will be harmed by trying. This person or thing is seen by you as too much for you to handle so helping it would only do more harm then good but you still want to help. The bumper sticker could indicate as for an all over outlook this should never have happened.
That's my take on it anyway

Tortoise In Dream Interpretation

For a real dream interpretation, you will have to examine your own, personal associations with turtles, trees, Hooters, etc. A dream is precisely calibrated to your individual experience and opinions. Anybody else's interpretation must be taken with a grain of salt. Given that caveat, I will take a stab at interpreting this based on common associations with all the things involved.

Trees are rooted in the Earth, and they grow slowly but become very strong. A tree is a primal symbol of groundedness. Trees also represent heritage, as in "family trees." The fact of two trees suggests to me two families--perhaps a choice between two strong individuals in a family (most obviously father and mother). Trees may suggest the phallus--perhaps the presence of two trees represents a choice between two men. Trees can also represent robust health--to grow strong like a tree.

The tortoise is you or someone you care about. It brings to mind the tortoise and the hare, as it is very specifically a tortoise and not a turtle. That fable suggests that wisdom and success rely on slow, steady persistence instead of speed, reinforcing a theme of steady progress already present in the trees. However, the tortoise in this dream is acting more like the hare--hurrying and failing. The fact that the tortoise acts like the hare suggests that the tortoise is hurrying even though it knows better, i.e. it knows it really shouldn't be hasty.

The hooters part is very funny. Hooters notoriously demeans women, and may be a symbol of mixing sexuality and work, perhaps inappropriately.

So, putting all this together, you or someone you know and care about is attempting to acheive a challenging goal, but going about it too hastily. There is a choice of some kind involved, between two paths. The goal is very scary, and trying to reach it may mean the loss of security (the cracked shell) and everything they care about in their current life (the fatal wounding). There has been one attempt made already, but it failed. Acheiving the goal may involve embracing sexuality or femininity in a way that the person fears will be demeaning. And overall, the person really should know better--either about the goal or the way they're going about achieving it.

Having said all that, perhaps this is a dream about dating, or finding a mate and starting a family (the family tree). If you are a shy person, dating can involve "coming out of your shell." If you've been shy all your life, dating is very scary, and risks the loss of security (the shell cracking). Dating also involves considering one's own sexuality and attractiveness, and the dream suggests discomfort and fear of humiliation in this area (the Hooters sticker). There may be a feeling that dating involves putting oneself in "the meat market." People often feel haste and pressure to find someone fast, even though they know it may take patience and persistence--hence the tortoise who acts like a hare.

If any of this is on the mark, wonderful. If not, hopefully the process I've shown can help you with your own analysis. What I did was make associations with each of the major nouns in the dream--the tortoise, the trees, the sticker--and then look at the verbs, or the relationship of those things to each other--the hurrying, the cracking of the shell. If my interpretation is off, you can use this process yourself to find the meaning. Good luck!

Dreams are sometimes given by the Lord to show where you need improvement in life. The interpretation of such dreams is true, but only if the interpreter has guidance from the Lord. Other dream interpreters that have a lot of experience can come close, but if there is direct guidance from the Lord concerning those dreams that are consistant with a dream that is given BY him, then the interpretation will hit a soft spot on the person's soul. The interpretation will be perfect. Many will not agree with me, and I never answer questions with regard to dreams that are simply the mind replaying the day. I also do not believe that any interpretation I give is mine, but belongs to Christ. There are instances in the Bible of 2 dream interpreters, Joseph and Daniel. I will not say that ALL dreams have meaning. Some are, as you say, random thoughts occuring as you sleep. Should you have one with deeper meaning, do not be afraid to voice it. You will know the true interpretation when you see it.

Are you thinking of taking a waitress job at Hooters? If so then watch out for dating men you meet there. You could come across an abusive man that you can not stop. especially the second time you could break your spirit for life on the second encounter.
It does not have to be a waitress position just a work related romance. Be careful and double date with friends to get to know the guy before having private dates. Stay safe and peace to you.

Do you feel that people have unrealistic expectations of you?

I ask because I wouldn't expect a tortoise to climb a tree, but I've never researched them.
