I enjoy both, but Stephen King is the winner by a mile. He has this great understanding of the way people think and interact with the world, each other and themselves. Dean Koontz writes in a simpler style, which is great for the tired mind that just wants light entertainment.

I like to read Dean Koontz because his novels are easier to get into and the story line flows better. King books make great movies but his books are dry. Hard to get into and they go on forever about stuff that just drags the plot out and turns what could be a nice 200 page book into a 500 page monster book about monsters. Tell you one other author that would have fit into this question well and I actually like to read better than Koonts is John Saul. Same kind of stories and really well written.
