What is responding correctly? You grab your AR 15 out of the trunk and run head first toward a "man with a gun" call and then come back and tell me what is correct. It is not the responsibility of the police to notify the student body. After a crime is commit ed in town should I go door to door and inform everybody? This should have been done by the school if the school decided that contacting the students was necessary. The police at the time of the second shooting were working the crime scene of the first. When the second call came out the officers responded. Do you know how many officers VT had on duty at that time? They had to call in other agencies to assist. There were many agencies on that scene. All of them seemed to do a good job working together.
When police are called the crime is already taking place. All we can do is react to what we see. For all we know be the time officers were near the suspect he had taken his own life. What else could these guys have done...

It is always easy for some to say the police didn't respond appropriately.

I seriously doubt there are many qualified respondants on Yahoo who are qualified or involved in the after action reporting to determine whether the Campus or local police responded properly.

It's interesting that some may consider it the responsibility of the police to make notifications to the general student populace, however, I suspect that that would have been the schools responsibility prior to the police even responding.

As a matter of fact, the school president admitted that it was considered to lock down the campus, however, due to the number of students and other circumstances, the school did not lock down the campus.

It's easy for us to "Monday morning quarterback" but not appropriate!

Best wishes.

no they didn't they should have locked that campus down right now,i blame the university for the second round of killings.i wouldn't send my child there no way.i hope the money spent on the people that where killed are given back to the parents and i mean all of it.the school was warned that there was a problem with the shotter and they should have removed him from the school.

One thing I noticed that may amount to an extenuating circumstance that few in the media are looking at. It was very cold that day, with high wind and snow flurries. My theory is that the slug-like tubs of lard that compose the typical campus security detail didn't want to get up from coffee and donuts in their nice warm office. It's human nature. "We'll look later."

Criminals get away with more during a rainstorm, partly because no one wants to go out and get wet. Think about it.

No, they did not. Most students on the VATech campus didn't even know about the shooting until they saw it on the news or heard it on the radio. They didn't get the word out, and they didn't warn people effectively.

This episode is over. Let's all quit playing the
"blame game", sympathize with the deceased
families, and then move on and be better for
the uniting this tragedy has brought.

Who is to say they did not. It is over. It is what it is. Would it have changed anything at all? Who knows that, no one. It is a waste of time to play the blame game, lives are lost, but who knows if it could have been prevented, it could have been different lives.
