Stainless steel is produced from iron along with some other additives, just for the simple reason that it does not get rusted.

And the main difference between iron and steel is, just that that the steel is non-corrosive. Also, it has a li'l more of lustre than iron.

Stainles Steel which is produced in a factory, is a raw material for many other industries.

This property of steel is very useful and important, which enables it to be used in a wide range of appliances.

It is used everywhere, from plates in our houses to huge locomotives such as planes and ships. It is used in home appliances ..refrigerator... washing machine.... microwave....and the list goes on!

India has plenty of minerals reserve, and production of stainless steel from iron has helped india a lot in its development. Production of steel in india first started with TISCO which was owned by Jamshedji Tata and at that time it had a considerable support from Britishers.

And look at TISCO now, it is one of the leading companies of India.

There are different recipes, and different types of steel are made for different purposes. They all share high temperatures, which allows extra carbon to bind with the iron. This is the main thing that makes steel "stainless," or rustproof. Other metals such as chromium, molybdenum, magnesium etc. are often added to increase tensile (twisting) strength, flexibility, etc.
