By the way I'm not the one not paying the support payments, just to let you know. It's my ex i need the money from.

It depends on several factors.

1.) Finding the father.
2.) Idenitifying his current place of employment.
3.) Filing the petition with the courts.
4.) Getting the court date.
5.) Getting a judgment for garnishment.
6.) Getting the employer to honor the garnishment.
7.) Hoping the husband does not skip the job and move to another. That requires the whole proces to start over again from step 1.

Don't count on garnishment! It takes about 2 weeks (sometimes as many as 6, but usually 2). However, you have to file a BRAND NEW writ for garnishment each and every time your husband changes jobs. This means that he can quit working and go to another job and you would be forced to start all over again.

You have to go to court, then after court about 2 wks. My bf has been at his job 4 wks,his support came out last week. Now my ex-husband started to come out 1 week after court.

Regardless if you pay it or not out of hand it will still come out of the check. Anytime money is handed to you from your kids father/mother it is considered a gift. Let child support know where you are working at all times.

Pay child support and don't find out. Seems simple enough.
