Self-sabotage behavior is when there is no logical or rational explanation for why you can't do the things you want to do or why you can't have the things you want to have.

It's not a lack of desire, skills, knowledge or effort that hold you back.

Rather, there's something inside you that's stronger than your desire and it sabotages your efforts to do the things you want to do and have the things you want to have.

Self-sabotage behavior is most recognizable by the experience of an internal "tug-of-war" between having a desire to do something and feeling like you can't or shouldn't do it.

Any time you hear yourself say, "I want to do this, but I can't or I shouldn't!" this is the inner conflict of self-sabotage behavior.

It can affect many areas of your life such as relationships, your career and your self esteem. We sometimes tell ourselves that we aren't good enough or we can't do a particular thing and that is self sabotage. We don't trust anyone or let anyone get too close to us....that is self sabotage. It really boils down to self esteem and self worth issues. What we tell ourselves we can or can't do really does affect the outcome of many things in our lives. Feed your mind with positive thoughts and you will find that you begin to believe in yourself a bit more each day. Positve affirmations really do work.

There can be more to it. Some people say they are self-destructive. It is a defeatist attitude that sets them up for failure. You can sometimes trace it all the way back to childhood in toddlers. They get used to criticism or being bullied and they never recover. The adult is more comfortable being a failure because that's what he knows.
He doesn't trust happiness and often doubts anyone else is happy either. It's negative patterning but I think some of it can be hereditary too.

Self sabotage sounds like that you ruin yourself by doing things that you know that would negatively affect your life. For example, by now everyone knows that drugs are bad, but if you start doing them, you know that drugs would screw you up, but you continue to do it anyways.
