It was the dinosaurs. There was a mutant gene in dinosaurs and that's where birds came from. You look at those flying dinosaurs they are birds yet to fully evolve. So, the answer would be the chicken. The egg could not be born a chicken until that which gave birth to was fully a chicken. The egg would be a product of the genes in the chicken, so until the chicken was a fully evolved chicken the egg was not a chicken's eggs. Also, the which came first the chicken or the egg is not a question about a chicken or an egg it is a questioning of all live. You cant have something out of nothing IE you can't have an egg without a chicken and you can't have a chicken without an egg but there had to be one or the other, but that's impossible, because one come from the other, so there had to be a time when nothing existed but then it's back to the same question you can't have something out of nothing. That's the mystery of life that no one will ever really be able to solve. You'll just drive yourself mad if you try.

I would guess that if this question is asked enough times the true answer might eventually be revealed.
Until that day, I will have to satisfy myself with my own belief regarding the beginning of all life forms. If I accept the premise that we are all evolved beings form an amoeba, a single cell life form, then the answer is obvious.
The chicken egg is essentially a development of the amoeba beyond one cell. It replicates itself millions, and trillions of times in a sequence determined by DNA. This develops into what we know as a chicken.
Before the chicken egg, there was originally the amoeba. It split, and then evolved by minor changes to DNA and indeed the development of long chain DNA.
We are therefore all decedent from the one cell amoeba, which is essentially an egg. Therefore the egg comes before the chicken!
The question of where the egg, or single cell amoeba comes from is more complex and not answered by theories of evolution that I understand.
The big bang theory suggests everything was created in an instant, and at this point the single cell life form was presumably created out of the big bang.
Before the "big bang" nothing existed except an extremely dense black hole. There are some theorists who say that this extremely dense black hole was created by the collapse of a previous universe, in which life forms could have existed. We will never know as all evidence has been destroyed in the collapse of the universe.
Of course this is conventional wisdom. This is no more likely an explanation than the flat earth theorists, before we knew about rockets and boats.

The egg. Eggs are the most common method of embryo delivery and incubation in reptiles, including the bird-like dinosaur ancestors of chickens. Long before the first quesadilla was made better with tasty bits of chicken breast, feathered dinosaurs were sitting on or caring for nests of eggs. From that point on, each generation was somewhat different than the last - maybe a tiny bit, maybe a significant amount - but wherever you'd like to draw the line and say "This critter is the first chicken," that critter hatched from an egg.

The egg. The chicken must have evolved from some other bird/reptile and so the first time things came together for the parent birds/reptiles and a chicken was created it would have been layed in egg form by the bird/reptile momma.
.....like if you cross bred a hummingbird and a ostritch and you got a humtritch bird the egg would come before the humtritch ( and the momma hummingbird would have a very sore **** )

I like to think its the egg, like one day an egg just dropped out of the sky and became a chicken, but I know that because of all the evolution it is the chicken!!

This has been asked and answered several times before, but...Since many organisms which evolved long before chickens reproduced using eggs, the egg came first. All amphibians and reptiles lay eggs, as do many other even older organisms, and they were certainly around loooonnngggg before chickens.
