COBOL is a third-generation programming language, and one of the oldest programming languages still in active use. The reason it is still in use is there allot of old systems that where developed using it. To convert these systems to something else would be costly and error prone. So until there so overwhelming cost reason to do so, these systems will simply be patched as changes are needed.

It is an old high level structured programming language that is still in wide use today. It is a vary strong language to use if you can find a copy of it. Pascal is very similar to this also and it is also still in use to day. COBOL is not what most people say as windows friendly as it is not a multi-tasking language.
