None of the current contestants had shown any affinity for country. Only Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle could really sell the song. Poor LaKisha and Blake tried cutting the songs to fit them, and failed. And the rest...oh, my. I love Martina McBride and will enjoy hearing her sing, but wasn't that just a complete waste of time?

Oh, and who else is tired of Simon attacking "song choice" when the choice is limited by theme?

It's just that it was sooooooo heinous!!!!

Also, was anyone else surprised that absolutely none of the guys wore cowboy hats?

I disagree Jayelle. I thought they were much better than last week. Except for you know who. I am surprised that you didn't find Jordin worthy. I agree with you about Simon, but then he wouldn't be Simon if he kept his mouth shut.

No they should definately have done country week. Country music is about pure singers. This week gave a good showing on who can actually sing and who cant. Lakisha... horrible. She can definately only sing gospel or "diva" songs... period. Anything else you throw her way and she sounds horrible. I couldnt even watch her performance last night. Carrie Underwood probably wrote Idol telling them to not let anyone else sing her songs. Sanjaya... speaks for himself. What an absolute disgrace to American life. Melinda was good as usual. Didnt know what song she was singing and it didnt showcase a true country song but she does it big every week. Too bad she cant lose the "oh my goodness, u thought i was really good?" act. The guys were fine. Chris R. sang a song by a nasely artist. A good nasely artist (group). I dont get the criticism of him. I mean American Idol is about supposedly finding someone that fits the "Idol" standard. Pop, and even country or rock is that standard. Melinda will be a good adult contemp. artist. Lakisha would be a good gospel singer in a church. Phil, maybe country. Blake, Chris, Stephanie would make for the best "American Idol". The rest sounded good though, as much as I hated seeing Phil's E.T. looking head, he sounded better than normal. Lakisha should leave tonight, or Sanjaya. But Chris R. will probably get voted off because when have the American voters gotten it right? Oh yeah.. because losers create internet sites like votefortheworst.com. Taylor Hicks.. need I say more?

No, some of the best music made in America today is country music. Some of the best singers in America today are country singers and some of the best songs written for people that can actually sing are country songs. Latin week was a disaster because Latin songs are not good songs for singers and most Latin singers are not good singers. They may have other attributes but singing ability is not among them.
What women in Latin/ pop music can sing as well as Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood,Faith Hill, or Emmylou Harris ?
Nobody
So when an average or below average singer tries to sing a song written by and for people who can actually sing ,they reveal themselves for what the really are- average or below average singers.
Country music is a great test for a singer ,it's almost as good as old broadway songs which really tested a singers ability because until recently broadway theaters didn't use microphones- a singer couldn't hide behind the technology

No, they shouldn't have canceled Country week because the contestants didn't have an affinity for country. Did you happen to catch last weeks Latin theme. None of them had an affinity for that either. They have to be able to sing all different genres of music to win. I love Simon; he's the only one who tells the singers the TRUTH! I agree with him 98% of the time.

Simon is looking for singers who can sing any song. It shows the range of their voices and their ability to be versatile enough to succeed. A talented singer can sing any song, just needs the pitch changed for their singing.
