True friendship is proven when you aren't around the friend anymore, but you keep in touch occasionally and when you do see each other, even if it's years in between, you pick up right where you left off, as if there was never any time lapsed. I'm blessed to have several of these friendships in addition to my nearby friends. Nothing can replace old friends, not even awesome new ones. ;o)

I never had any real friendships, what I mean by that is time and situations have separated me from the people I once regarded as friends. Still, I would define a friend as a person who never lets you down, has the utmost of respect for you.

My definition of Friendship would be ...

- Friends who're always there for you, through good times & bad.

- Friends who accept you & love you for who you are.

- Friends who stand up for you.

- Friendship is based on trust & honesty.

- I've always believed that you should treat others the way you wanna be treated, at the same time, when you do that, dont have expectations. It oftens leads to dissapointment. Others might not feel the way you do.

- Plant a tree on who's shade you don't plan to rest on.

- We make lots of friends throughout the journey of life. Yet we also have the tendency to lose them just as easily. Friendship is a 2 way thing. It takes 2 hands to clap :)

Also... I'd like to thank thoes who have contributed by sharing their answers. Taught me a thing or 2 :) Thanks!

To me, friendship is building a relationship and a bond with another person who you trust and share things in common with. A true friend is someone who you can always depend on to be there to talk, to listen and to offer their support when things are tough. They are always the first to celebrate the good times with you also. True friends understand your past, believe in your future and accept you today, just the way you are.

A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.

One who multiplies joys, divides grief and whose honesty is inviolable.
One who understands our silence

A volume of sympathy bound in cloth.

A watch that beats true for all time and never runs down.

Friendship is the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words.
