I doubleclick and the entire picture is framed with a temporary thin border. I can resize the picture, but I can't affect the text. Ungroup is not an option.

Use Paint (Comes with windows) or photoshop !

Open the picture in paint, then crop the picture (Thereby getting rid of the text), save it, and then import it back into Word.

Unless the text is above the picture, then you couldn't do anything with it without destroying the pic. But if the text is at the side, a caption perhaps, or just in the edge of the picture, then you can crop the pic. ^_^

scan in to photoshop and use the heal tool
