That's why they're desirable, we always want what we can't have!

Hardly. I saw four fantastic concerts this past week. Out of the eight groups, only one was less than stellar. Total cost: just under £40.
Getting out of the mainstream increases your chances of finding things like this. The way you've worded your question really just applies to conventional tastes. And those are usually the ones most influenced by advertising. Explore a bit and broaden them -- there's no need to be limited. The best stuff I've found isn't dear at all.

I'd say you're correct in that.
Especially the 'expensive' part.
At first I disagreed with you, but then I thought about the things I love--my daughter and my hobbies--and how much both have cost over the years.
It came to almost a half million dollars, and I'm not rich!

Well, speaking as a man. You know the only things most of us are after and it is the cheapest thing in the world. A particular iteration of it may be costly, but as a whole it is more common than a well behaved dog.

Disagree. Good health, fabulous friends, a loving family, sunrise, sunset, snow, a fire in the garden, sitting round a fire on a beach with friends, camping, snorkelling, laughter, a hug, an English summer day - I could go on but I think you get the idea.

I totally disagree. There are plenty of things in this life that are worth living for and quite free. I enjoy watching birds, smelling flowers, the air after a crisp rain. The BEST pleasures in life are free, if only you look around for them. You don't have to rely on people for happiness or joy. You can find your own joy. I love this time of year. The birds are returning, I can hear them chirping, the flowers are blooming and the temperature is JUST right. Find pleasure in the little things....the taste of coffee, the smell of flowers, the feel of your favorite pajamas....whatever turns you on!

I've changed my mind on this one, not all desireable things are hard to get or fraught with trouble, the simple pleasures are often the best.

I would have agreed until last weekend when i took my g/f for a walk in a country park, and spent a couple of hours lying with her beside a lake on a warm summery day.

You are even more cynical than I.
I would say 'many' rather than 'All'. A good meal and a decent pint of beer are still reasonable and there are many enjoyable pastimes that are fairly inexpensive.
