I know a lot of Christian liberals, but it seems like all atheists are way out there. (I'll stereotype like they do)

Well, to start with, I'm not convinced that most atheists stereotype so broadly about theists. I know plenty of religious people who are liberals in the American sense of the word. I also know quite a few atheists who are conservatives or libertarians. I'm an atheist, and I find my views swing somewhat between centre left and libertarian.

On the other hand, I do suspect that in some western countries, you'll find fewer that the majority of conservatives aren't atheists and that the majority of atheists aren't conservatives. They might still be more or less right wing, but conservatism is only one area of the right wing. This is not to say that most theists are conservatives, I should add -- that may or may not be the case.

The point is that in countries like the US and, to a lesser extent, the UK, conservative values (such as views on the family and sexuality) tend to be associated with religion. To give up belief in God is, in some parts of the world (as, I imagine, in some states of the US) quite a radical step in itself.

But while I doubt that most theists are extreme right-wingers, I doubt that most atheists are extreme left-wingers. It's that word "extreme" I have especial trouble with.

I was an extreme right winger until the current administration took over. ( at least on everything outside the government legislating personal matters). Now, I'm on the left simply in an effort to try to undue the damage the current administration has caused.

Libertarian here. I think both extremes of the the American left-right spectrum tend toward totalitarianism, and my voting value is liberty.

Though no one can prove or disprove God's existence, our history reveals the unmistakable footprints of something greater than man.
