You should see an ENT specialist. He will spray an anaesthestic through your nose and insert a scope through your nose right through to your vocal chord . You will see everything very clearly on the screen. Takes only about 15 minutes for the whole process (while you are seated). Its a simple process. Do not delay. Also , see Katies answer if the scope proves negative. Reflux is another condition with this symptom though I think the polyp on the vocal is the main reason. I sing very often and once in a while my voice breaks too. I ignored it and later coughed blood that led me to the ENT. there was indeed a polyp on the right vocal chord. We have to get it removed to send for biopsy. I am sitting on it.... Well , sooner or later I will have to do it. Just waiting for some recommendations for a second opinion. Alot of answerers on yahoo answers told me its a simple process and asked to remove it. They reason I am delaying is that since the polyp is on the vocal chord itself, I am afraid that it will affect my voice after the operation as the vocal chord is an organ by itself.

It could also be a result of Acid Reflux. I would see my doctor since this can have pretty serious consequences if untreated for too long. Good luck.

You should see a doctor and have him order a thyroid ultrasound, to see if they are on your thyroid and not your voice box. I have thyroid nodules and it makes my throat go rough and affects my voice. If you have nodules, they need to be checked to see if they are cancerous.

If the nodules are indeed on your thyroid, taking Synthroid (synthetic thyroid hormone) can shrink them and keep them from growing larger.

You need to have an otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) examine your vocal cords. Treatment depends on the ENT's findings.

I suggest you attend to this soon.

are you sure about your voice technic,if I were you I would try to learn it (it could be dysphonia hyperkinetica)
however, it is otorhinolaryngological issue
