Most sit just like any other dog but a few very heavily muscled track dogs are muscle bound - the muscle mass from the upper thigh meets the muscle of the lower thigh before they get enough bend to actually get the rump on the ground. Those dogs squat on their hocks and usually don't stay sat for long. this I suspect is the origin of the myth greyhounds cant sit bast on that this squat isn't a sit (it is according to AKC regulations)
I had a whippet who NQed at an obedience match because when he lies down upright on his chest like the Sphinx statue there is a tiny gap under his butt...... No licensed judge worried about it..

Go to the American Kennel Club web site www.akc.org and research greyhounds. Greyhounds are not built for sitting, they are built to run. They have a hard time sitting, and do not sit like other dogs. It has to do with their spine and structure. These dogs are amazingly quiet, docile and sweet. There's no need to make them sit, as they will stand quietly by your side.

No - they don't really sit - it is physiologically difficult for them to do.
