As a kid, the catholic church's bloody history appalled me and was one of the things that led to my decision that it had no credibility.
But they are not alone. Other branches of christianity also have blood on their hands.
The treatment of the Amercan indians wasn't exactly friendly.
Northen Ireland wasn't just catholic killing protestants, it went both ways.
This bloody history continues with brutality against the muslim minority in the Philipines which would turn the stomach of any decent human being.
Some of the answers to a previous question of mine seemed to suggest that all christians except for catholic have a history of total peace.
Isn't this looking through rose coloured glasses?
Why do so many christians live in denial of history?

U B Happ.... I know many religions do good deeds. So do many atheists.
The world's biggest donar to charity, Bill Gates, is an atheist.

Rev R.....Last week, a link was posted in one the questions to a documentary of explicit footage from the Philipines of the worst atrocities I have ever seen. The brutality of christians against muslims was undeniable and disgusting.

because they still want to believe that "god is love" and they are peaceful and perfect. When in fact they're a bunch of bloodthirsty crazy people. They might as well still be making human sacrifices.

The only history for Christians is the bible written in 320 AD or there abouts. How much of the real history of testaments were left out by the old Roman Catholic fathers and bishops and the first pope is anyone guess. Look deeply into the Deed Sea Scrolls where the Righteous One condemns the Wicked Priest in Jerusalem before Jesus was born and crucified.
It is a pity that the Romans sacked and burnt the temple as they did with Alexandria. A hole lotta history was lost to the world.

I believe the Reformation stood against the Catholic Church and the bloody history of crooked and evil Popes. These Reformation Christians were burned at the stake and killed for printing the Bible and defying the Catholic Pope. The very word Protestants means "Protesters," against the Catholic Church and the cruel Pope. America fled England because of the Church of England trying to tell our forefathers how to believe. Not all of us are in denial of history.

Basically all I can say is it's true and I'm sorry. I recently read a book about a guy who set up a confession booth on his college campus. People came in and he began confessing how sorry he was for the atrocities done in the name of Jesus over time. People came in expecting to confess, but instead were confessed to.
Know that what people do falsely in the name of Jesus does not represent Jesus- it is an atrocity. I'm sorry. Really all I can say is I'm sorry and it horrifies me too. I think on slavery and how Christianity was used to justify that. That makes me sick! I'm sorry. You're right and I do believe that the Christian church is coming around. I don't know about Catholicism, but many other churches have grown to recognize the evils done in the name of Jesus and it makes us angry too.

I don't mean to be repetitive but...
Not all People who say they are Christians are. (very few according to the Bible)
And not all Denominations that claim to be Christian are. (Very few according to the Bible and History)
I live and minister in the Philippines by the way. Which brutality against the muslim minority are you refering to?
There is more brutality between the NPA and Government forces than there is with the Muslims...
Muslims sell their products in all the big shopping malls here.

Someone has denied what you say? They are uninformed, for sure. But, to be fair, are YOU informed about the good, charitable things done in the name of the church? The hospitals sponsored by churches for CENTURIES. The hundreds of millions, upon millions of meals given out. Donations organized for disaster relief?
Make a list of those things, as well, and the fact that these happen daily, and have happened daily for CENTURIES. See how each side of the scale is balanced then.

In Fact in the Old Testamant, God ordered some wars to get rid of the sins of those cities because they mocked God.

i think of you're lacking the element. non secular human beings as an entire are not being accused of being in charge for an excellent form of the wars in this international. faith itself is, and a small minority of religious human beings. If there have been no faith, human beings might nonetheless do good issues, yet there might additionally be one much less reason to start war. it may well be a win win situation.

I do not know anyone who denies the blood in religions history. Even God sent armies to destroy his enemies. This is the way of life. Good trying to defeat evil. Not just in religion but also just people trying to survive day to day life.Until the end, there will always be war.We are fighting for a way of life, our freedoms..And God said there is a time for all things.....even war and death.

All religions fight for what they believe in therefore when someone doesn't believe in the same thing they will argue, and when that other person believes in something else just as strongly, they will fight. Stupidity really. Righteousness.
When someone believes they are right in thier actions as do christians, they will not see the atrocities that they have committed.
Oh and also they are brainwashed, otherwise they wouldn't believe in thier religion in the first place! :-) PEACE!!
