In how far can people be responsible for the situation in their own country? Can you held the Philippinians responsible for the Marcos dictatorship, the Zimbabweans for that of Mugabe, the Indonesians for the crimes of Suharto? I think, in thee end, it is the world community that should act, in conjunction with Iraqis who want the best for their country, its civilization, its tradition and its history. I think too man people in Iraq and extremist groups outside the country have an interest in chaos, killings and death. This is a war by proxy, where civilian death is counted as part of a battle that is being won by those who target innocent human lives. How to find the perpetrators? how to stop the financing of the suicide killings, the kidnappings (which became the second industry after oil)?
How was the Bosnian War solved in the end? There was a military intervention by the EU and the US. If this had not taken place the killings would have continued till the disappearance of complete peoples or adherents of a particular religion.
In short, apart from the world community (UN, EU, US, Arab League), the Iraqis, all Iraqis, Sunni, Shi' ite and Kurds, are responsible to help stop the continued kilings, and to give voice to reason and compromise to solve the crisis.

they are good people, but what a lot of people don't understand is that there are issues that are older than the country. Iraq as a country was an entity; like Israel, that was started mostly through British intervention. The majority of the people are Persian; like the Iranians, who have been under the thumb of the the minority for over sixty years. How would the country be without that interference, I don't know, but I'm sure the sectarian violence that is happening there would probably not be so much an issue. Personally I think the country should be divided, but the fear of another Persian country is going to prevent that.

The Iraqis have been torn with political upheaval and social strife for the last 65 years. No culture, no part of society deserves a civil war. But, in the final analysis, when all outside forces withdraw, it will be the Iraqis to decide what kind of government and what kind of nation they would want to become. Their future should be in their hands, for better or for worst. I don't believe they are deserving of their fate. What is more important is their destiny.

These are people who belong to a very ancient civilisation . We are not here to discuss that. There must be something very amazing about the people of Iraq. Admirble, amazing, stoic, patient, ability to withstand great suffering and loss of life of dear ones......

When I watch on TV those tragic scenes of parents weeping over their loved ones , mainly young people and even children and such innocent souls ......killed by suicide bombers etc every day for the past 3 years ...in thousands , .....my heart bleeds. Furthermore it is sectarian violence.
I am sure that the world admires the simple Iraqi for all they are going through.

Going through ? Let me ask you, was it planned by the US / UK ? Europe alliance to decimate the Iraqi people , break their spirit with the intention of running the country and controlling the oil.
That is what I think. That the Iqaqi are strong people but not strong enough to chase these foriegn troops out.

Iraqis are basically just like all other folks on planet Earth. They have been under such horrendous pressures most of us cannot truly understand their perception of the world they live in. At the moment, most of them are caught in the middle of a number of factions that all use violence and terror as means to their goals. Mainly I feel great pity and sympathy for them, they are not the cause of the horrors visited on the general populace. I am very thankful I do not have to try to survive in that life style myself!

They are happy that their cruel dictator has been deposed and that they now have the opportunity for freedom.

They are now going through a process similiar to a civil war and the power dynamic must be settled for things to return to normal. Tough times? Yes, but the Iraqis are a resiliant people and have seen much worse.

No one deserves what is going on in Iraq. Most of these people are illiterate, and depend on their religious leaders for information. No one deserves to have their baby's killed, or to have to live in fear of being blown up by a bomb on the side of the road on the way to work, or some crazy driving by them and blowing his car up. The citizens of Iraq don't deserve any of this, and they did not bring it on themselves, it was forced upon them. And that is why we are there, among other reasons. Our main goal is to make their lives better, and we shouldn't leave until we do.

I agree with TE. And the Iraqis have been through so much for so many decades. I hope one day they have a beautiful, thriving democratic country and can be happy.

I am ebarressed for the Iraqi people, they are strangers in their own homes...

Before the U.S. came in for the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction" the Iraqi people were happier, they weren't getting killed, they weren't thinking if they would live or die today...

Ofcourse they don't deserve getting killed/ tortured/ psychologically scarred. They simply do not deserve getting treated like this.
