A close friend of mine asked me to go out with him, and I am curiously looking back wondering if he was asking me to be his girlfriend or if he was asking me just to go on a date.

If the person asking only asked that specifically than they are probably asking to be your boy/girl friend. Usually the person asking would ask if you want to go out somewhere to entail going out on a date. Especially if you have known this person for a long time, then it would be more likely that they are asking you to become their boy/girl friend and dates will most likely follow either way. Hope that helps and good luck.

whoaaaaaaa

I just had to answer this question

This is like the BIGGEST confusion between the sexes.

And it's usually a male problem. Their ego's can't comprehend that a girl simply likes their company and wants a simple friendship to where ever that leads. The male has to believe she is seriously deleriously in lurrvvve with him.

Males are so pathetic and insecure and I know cause I am one.

Anyway back to your friend. Since you guys are already palsy walsy it should be safe to go out and have fun together without having a wedding ring stuck in your face.

Just treat it as a friendship date and see where it leads. You already know how you feel about him and believe me friendships can turn into the best romances.

If he's a cool guy he's cool eh.

its A date/

Asking someone out - on a date - getting started

Many people find this the really difficult bit - how do you ask someone out? There's no simple answer to this one, either, but the main thing to remember is that 'if you don't ask, you don't get'. What's the worst that could happen? They say "no." Well, that's not the end of the world - and anyway, they might say "yes", you won't know until you ask. Anyway, even if they say "no", they might say "yes" later – now they know you're interested, they might just need time to think about it.

The practical side of asking someone out doesn't have a recipe, I'm afraid - it's different in every situation. However, there are a few useful things to remember:

* Asking someone out is flattering - they should be pleased, even though they might be surprised.
* Try to get the person alone before you ask them out - it's often harder with other people around.
* Try to get to know the person a bit, first.
* Try to relax!
* Sometimes, you just have to say it - "Will you go out with me?"
* If they say "yes" - brilliant!
* If they say "no" - well, you've just got to respect that. Remember, it doesn't say anything about your value as a person.
* Remember - there's someone out there for everyone!

For now, consider it an invitation for a date. After awhile if all works out, I'm sure he will consider you his girlfriend. Take one step at a time in every case. It's obvious there is an attraction if he wants you to go out with him. That's always a fun--and positive--thing. Just enjoy the moment. Let both of your feelings dictate whether or not a relationship is in your futures.

If he is a close friend, ask him what he meant by what he said the other day. Tell him that you are not sure that you heard him right.
