Burke and Willis travelled from Coopers' Creek to the Gulf of Carpentiria. They did not travel to the Cape, the distance is about 1600 kilometres.

Cooper Creek is a long river. If you measure from where it flows into Lake Eyre it would have to be at least 3000km from Cape York, perhaps more.
