Culling I a needed tool for all herd management.
Most don’t understand that any one that spends large amount of time in the woods watching and observing deer can soon spot the better deer, just as wild predators do.
We have used the very same process in all domestic animals and all have benefited from that process.
Just look at the different breeds of dog and how they benefited by culling.
Not to mention cattle, pigs, sheep and all others.
We have been using this management tool for hundreds of years with great success.
To those who say we are playing God, read the bible God gave us Dominion over all the animals.

It depends you can sit here all day and read peoples (opinions)why don't you do some research on land and animal management sometime what food source in the area might not be suitable for the animals or polluted water so many factors land, food, water have a great impact on wildlife plus other animals in the area if you have a lot of coyotes in the area it could be stressing out the deer

culling is verry helpful, i would like to cull the animal rights activists by spayin or neautering them, humanely euthenizing older, unwanted ones, and taping their mouths shut as so they don't brainwash anymore. ok now that is out of my system this is how culling/harvesting works.
lets first look at numbers
50 acres
50 deer
20 female
10 male
20 fawns
out of the fawns 15 female 5 males
ok now come fall rut comes into play so that is 20 more fawns in 50 acres come spring , then a normal summer then fall comes again. which makes 35 fawns come spring. now of course there is preditors, and death and so on but say this is in an area with no natural predators, and it was a young healthy heard and a couple good summers,. even with good summers a total of 105 animals on 50 acres you see where this is going. severe over population, which in turn drives down the plant life due to over browsing. the animals become smaller, weaker and very sick and alot die. yes natural but in trying to help animals peta is actually torturing animals in a more cruel way than hunters.
now take the same situation with lets say one hunter it is his land no others hunt it. form the laws of the state i know we will say he is allowed 3 deer 2 must be antlerless(doe young bucks with small antlers less than 3 in above hairline) and one either buck or doe. he kills 1 of each( although more likely he kills 2 doe) so what happens he takes a total of 4 deer out (mind you doe is pregnant) which leaves more food for the rest.
yes i know that is the perfect situation all around in all likely hood the summers will vary, deer would be hit by cars and so on but it is like this would you rather a hunter come along kill the animals humainly or have them sick or hit by vehicles and possibly suffer until they die. another thing to conceder is hunters for the hungry, the donate venison or whatever to the homeless and poor people, I have NEVER heard of animal right activists doing anything like that. Hunters ; by buyying their liceanses is paying for animal studies on proper management and so on. peta is so backwards in many ways. they spend money on their campaigns, but not helping other people or try to realisticly manage animals.

no its fine. It is done all over the world by most species. The same tactics are employed in corporate cutbacks. As long as you are actually kulling and not just killing indiscriminately, go for it.

Is culling the herd bad? No, its usually a good idea when dealing with livestock and or on game ranches.

humans shouldn't be involved in kulling. we don't know which members of the herd are weak. we usually end up killing the healthy. also humans are the only overpopulation in the world because we defy natural selection. if you want to keep a healthy herd you need its natural predator to target the weak links.

I belive that anything we do is against what nature does. Who are we to act God and change populations like that? Let nature take its own course and deal with our own problems first.
