Lets be honest.

1 guy shoots up a school and the nation freaks out.

Ppl shoot each other all the time in other countries. What do people do? Pick up guns and shoot back.

(This might be hard for some of you to grasp, since the news doesn't cover much of what's going on in the world. Sorry)

Sloppy:
I've been shot at on several occasions and stabbed. No time did I take it like a coward.

I have also been in a crowd of soldiers in a big building were an M16 5.56 round went off. Everyone hit the floor. I was in formation, I leaned forward to see if anyone I knew was shot. Why did I not hit the floor?

I am also in the Army about to reclass as Infantry.

How about you?

Uh yeah. I don't believe I used the word "all" but you can have an average of anything.

ret_roch:
No, I just processed that one round when off. If it was a shooter trying to kill multiple ppl, the area the round went off was in a cluster f' and there woulda been a "pop, pop, pop" not just a "pop". In the area it was in, the person only had one round.

I thought they shot someone. But, it ended up being a lose round stuck in the chamber from the range and was accidentally fired into the ceiling when clearing the weapon.

I am American and I see where you are going with this-It is a phenomena that I call the Bitchifaction of America. The liberal politicians get children young and wimp them out. It is not cool to be a man anymore and it is cool to be a queer. They have been bitching up American kids for so long, the kids at Virginia Tech just decided to lie down and die and not fight back. The same happened on 9-11 on 3 out of the four planes hijacked.

I'd have to agree with one of the above posters that living in a country (and I'm not american by the way) where mass killings and other violence isn't a "normal" part of life is probably a good thing!
But what is cowardly? Attacking "queers" and students (those trying to survive amidst and deal with the aftermath of) a tough guy shooting up their school! And I suppose those families who grieve for their children, and all those who are struck by these and other similar events are cowards???
I hate to challenge your world view here, but maybe what you percieve as the "bitchification" of america is just other people trying to get away from the mindsets of the past (i.e. your's) that have plagued this world with violence and war far too long. Maybe you should put down your shotgun, get on a plane, and actually see for yourselves how miserable some other countries in this world are. And while you're there, ask the local, normal people how much they just love being surrounded by violence every day.

I'm just wondering what the problem is exactly.

You're upset that Americans don't fire guns on each other in the streets? Oh no!

Also, is there any reason you're not indicting other countries for their cowardice? Spain gets bombed, a few people die (not NEARLY as many as on 9/11) and the Spanish rescind their support for the War on Terror.

How about the millions and millions and millions of Americans who have walked knowingly and willingly to their own deaths for an institution or a cause greater than themselves?

You are making such a broad generalization about 300 million people. How can you possibly say that "Americans are cowards" because many are upset that 30+ innocent people died? That doesn't show "weakness" - that shows "respect" for human life, something that's not present in a lot of the world. I kind of pity you for thinking that it's cowardly to mourn innocent deaths.

I acknowledge that a lot of the world has it much, MUCH rougher than the United States and Europe, but considering the amazing acts of bravery and heroism that Americans perform EVERY DAY, often on behalf of peope who aren't even American, it's disturbing and sickening that you'd label an entire population as cowardly.

*Edit: You didn't have to say "all." You didn't specify any particular Americans, so you were making a broad generalization of Americans. If you want to qualify your ignorant statements about Americans, then freakin' do it rather than quibble over whether you said "all."

PUKE.

You want to be honest, OK. I've also been shot at, on a whole lot of occasions. Anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature will tell you that when a round goes off, make yourslf a smaller target so if everyone hit the floor but you, guess where the next round would go.

Hmmm....interesting thought, that. As you may already know, I'm british, not American, and it does seem a little wierd that a nation with a growing gun culture, but I wouldn't go as far as calling Americans 'cowards', just very worried that people can do this sorta thing and obviously have no quarms about it. Hell, if I was in their position, i'd be bloody worried too! Lol good job guns are illegal in the uk (i'm not suggesting that there arent any, mind)

Not really, but something close to it. See, our forefathers fought and worked so hard for us to live as luxuriously as we do that many don't appreciate how easy we have it. They take it for granted. Aside from our troops, many don't think we should have to fight for what we have. What scares you, my friend? Death? I'm afraid my life will end before all I want to do is accomplished. I'm afraid of Hillary becoming President. I'm afraid our kids will grow worse in the very moral fiber and backbone you are talking about. But cowards? Not all of us. Not the Jew who threw himself against a door only to get shot to death while protecting his students, or the cops who responded to the call. When I asked an illegal acquaintance what he'd do if the war got worse and his son was drafted and he said "chust move heem bock to Meh-he-koe!" I didn't know weather it was cowardice or treason. I know I was a coward for not punching his lights out. Jail scares me. Maybe I'm a coward, too.

Too many of our men have been feminized. By feminized I mean taught not to hit back and to express their "feelings". Whatever happened to the strong silent type? Whatever happened to John Wayne? Too many of us are quite frankly wussies and would rather curl up in the fetal position than fight back. No wonder the islamo fascists are circling us...

countries with more violence are for lack of a better term f****ed. lack of law and order is not something to aspire to. americans freak out when things like that happen because they are used to living in a civilized country. it's not cowardly to not want to be shot at school.

What your referring to here does happen...in third world craphole countries. In the civilized world the US stands head and shoulders above other nations in shootings per capita.

With morons like you in the military, it's no wonder we're getting our @sses handed to us in the middle east.

I don't know if they are or not but the country does seem to have been conditioned to not defend themselves or handle their own disputes. In this country today some idiot can rob you and if you catch him and kick his butt he can file assault charges on you. That is just nonsense. I Oklahoma we have make my day laws, you can use deadly force on anyone that breaks into your home or attacks you on the street. It ain't perfect here but our legislators do think occasionally.
