why women are being denied something they were entiled to in the early church? Many of my women friends are incensed by the church's action. They are capable and actually serve in many roles designated to deacons even now without recognition. Why is the catholic church stuck in such a political and traditional rut?

Long story. Pity. I think part of the problem is the leaders are all men. And the U.S. and other 'modern', 'liberal' countries are a small minority in the world. The Vatican do not even think of us. They see the issues of the U.S. as very minor and silly, and do not take them seriously.

I read somewhere that the early Church did use female deacons, mainly for roles such as baptizing women since it was considered inappropriate for men to do so, especially if the women were under-dressed. I'm pretty sure the Church has no problems with female deacons today. It probably depends on the need.

God bless.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church currently states:

The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry.

The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible.

With love in Christ.

The Diaconate is that final step towrds the Priesthood which is not for Women, read Pauls writings about the uses of the body and how each member has his/her role to play.
The Fall of humanity did not come through Eve as she was not the head of the human family, this came by Adam, and this is but one reason that the Priesthood is male and not female, finally if it served our Lord to appoint men to the Apostolate of Priestly ministry then the Catholic church has not the power or right to change this.

Meg above has got it right.

Because women cannot be ordained. Period. End of argument.

As a woman, I am sick to death of feminNAZIS claimeing women are somehow treated as less than men because we cannot be ordained. The way I see it, the role of the priest is the servant- he serves us. By not allowing women to be ordained it testifies to the DIGNITY of women in the eyes of God and the Church.

It is a compliment, not an insult.

Because the founder of christianity, Paul of tarsus aka "St. Paul" hated women. Neither Jesus nor his disciples founded christianity. They founded the Nazarene church- the arch-enemy of Paul of Tarsus.
See:

But when Paul created the counter religion to destroy the word of Jesus and obliterate the true gospels of Jesus- the gnostic gospels, he so hated women that he could not help but ensure they were considered worse than slaves.

This is probably because women have always been more intuitive in spiritual matters than men and for that Paul and most early christian leaders feared them.

Because the Vatican, and the Catholic church have spent millenia erasing and destroying any documents that show women are equal in the church to men. The early Vatican was filled with misogynistic men who used their power to subjugate women in the church. Originally women were equal in the catholic church. Remember Mary Magdalen was the disciple closest and most favored by Jesus, and she taught along side him.
