wrapped my arms around your camouflaged leg and begged you to shoot my child that was slowly starving to death along with 1000's of other children, would you do it or lend me your gun?

Can't wait for Francis F's response.

This is the question mothers in Darfur ask of the Militia.

Cheryl B... I should be so lucky!

Cufy McDade, I am in now way advocating it. I'm just curious as to how a Western soldier would handle the request. This is happening daily in Darfur. Fathers are breaking their babies necks in an attempt to not let them suffer. Imagine if that was your dilemma? Now back to your breakfast and morning cup of coffee.

Francis F.... I'm shocked.... and no I'm on a break at the moment... working at HQ for a bit.... waiting for my next assignment. I go where I'm told... a bit like a soldier, except of course I'm unarmed.

Lets get one thing straight! i hope by "camoflaged leg" you are not insinuating an American GI. Any American GI would give up their rations for a starving child. Its been proven time and again everywhere we have fought, so this question can't apply to US GI's. As for any other armed camoflaged individuals in the world calling themselves "soldiers" they are using an honored name unjustly. And if it were American camoflaged soldiers, the enemy would be fed as proven in Iraq after the invasion.

In an interview with Dawkins the Bishop of Oxford said that if asked he would shoot a driver trapped in a burning vehicle rather than watch him burn alive.

If it's good enough for a Bishop...

If I was unable to help in any way and was convinced that the ONLY alternative was suffering, I'd shoot the child (of course I'd also shoot the idiots who say things like "well tell them not to get pregnant" "they should have used condoms" "they shouldn't have decided to be poor, or have their country invaded, or be attacked " etc etc) But that's just me.

not unless the world had collapsed and there was no hope of any aid or migration. I might entertain the idea of any volunteers can die. or if we can't ask them like they're being eaten by zombies i'd kill em. hate to have to decide though.

I wouldn't kill people in darfur, i'd point em towards paris at the very least, long walk but yummy trash in the dumpsters and bugs all over the woodlands.

You seem to have some interesting questions. Have you ever been in any of these situations? Its amzing what a person will do. Sometimes its like your just watching someone else, that's its not you. I've been to a few places like this, both as a combatant and a refugee worker. You do what you can and try not to dwell on it so you don't lose your sanity.

Using a little naughty innuendo to draw people in to admonish them about Darfur - seems effective. Admittedly, distance and isolation from world disasters do allow for a degree of complacency.

To answer the question, it is better to do the best you can to help the most you can; mercy killing is not an acceptable response.

This is a tremendously hypothetical question I think. Couldn't you just suffocate them and leave the camouflaged legs alone!

NO! ultimatums like that are horrible. It's like asking which family member you kill off first. I wouldn't do it. I'd rather give you the gun to sell for food and anything else i could spare. lol i'd like to hear the particular situation you're in to reach a decision like that. Children starving to death should be fed not shot!

Real Americans dont kill children, born or unborn, Starving or not.We try to feed them first. Then assist you in learning how to feed them. You on the other hand for suggesting it? No I guess not, your not to bright.

I, like most others on this site, have not been pushed to that point of desperation and hoplessness, so we can't actually say what we'd resort to.
You never know what your capable of until your staring into the abyss.
