It depends on their ages. They should wash their hands before eating or putting their hands in their mouths. But that is just common hygiene, whether their are puppies or not.
I have raised 23 foster children of all ages, and have never had any problems with the kids getting *anything* from the houseful of dogs and puppies.

All animals AND people carry around a regular little city of bacteria. Most are not harmful and those who come in contact with you regularly become resistant to those which can potentially be harmful (this is why the natives can drink the water in Mexico) Its generally recommended to wash hands after petting an animal you don't live with, and maybe this would be wise for a day or two but in time it will not be necessary. Actual scientific studies show that a child with a pet will be healthier...

Puppies carry worms.Everyone knows that, but the types of worms they carry can sometimes be transmitted to people and children. So, if your puppy is licking it's rear and licking your kids, then yes, washing hands would be a good place to start.Make sure they are on a heartworm preventative that deworms monthly, like sentinel or interceptor. Those are the ones to use if you have small children around.

Top five things commonly found on your puppy:
1)DIRT
2)Fleas
3)Flea Dirt
4)Germs
5)Possible contagious parasites!

Good Luck and may the force be with you.

Oh, and I gave a thumbs down to all who said that puppies are safe because the truth is, 600 children went blind from ingesting roundworm eggs that settled in their eyes in 2006 mainly because parents don't know how many zoonotic diseases are transmittable to their children...get educated.

Depends.

If it is taking medicine (flea medicine, etc), yes

If the dog is dirty, yes

If the dog has any worms, etc, yes

Right before they eat, yes (but you tell them to wash right before they eat anyway right)

If the dog hasn't been washed in a while, yes

Other than this, I wouldn't worry about it. Germs are everywhere. You should be more concentrated on places where germs are transferred often. Bathroom, Door Knobs, etc.

Don't waste your time with trivial stuff like germs from puppies. Because if you wanted to make a case out of puppies, you could make a case out of anything.

People do not get infected with worms by having puppies lick their hands. My parents raised puppies when I was born, I played with them all my life, and I have never had worms. I still have dogs, and I'm 52 years old. Let the kids play, and if their hands look dirty, wash them.

When I had dogs I never washed my hands after playing with them. Mainly cuz' they were all nice n' clean. But if your kids are going to eat or anything to that effect then you should wash their hands. But not every time they play with the puppy.

You mean they should wash their hands. :) Let them get used to the habit-- it's not a big deal because after awhile it'll be an automatic task. It's better to be prepared than sorry so yes, I would say wash the hands everytime.

You know some germs are good for kids (i mean in small doses).... I read somewhere that parents who keep their children overly clean are actually doing the kids a disfavor exposing kids to a variety of germs at young ages can be good for them and help them develop health imune systems... I know for a fact that as a child I had contact will all manner of animals and dirt and what not and i have an extremely active imune system... dont be parinoid about germs....

I raised two children and I did not do that. We let them play with the cat or dog, what every we had that year. Then washed their hands before they ate. You can over do it with that germ killing. My Mother treats her little dog like a person, tells me the dog is my little sister. I remember growing up, and my real sister use to kick my tail. So I maybe I need to kick this dog now.
