I had a tattoo done when I was really young... I really regret getting it... Especially because it was a spare of the moment thing. It's dark blue/purple and pretty big. I have sensitive skin so my skin is a little bumpy there. So I was wondering if I would be able to cover it nicely without having it look bad. I was watching Miami Ink and was curious.
*Note* I really have sensitive skin and the area of my tattoo is bumpy due to the sensitivity of my skin. And I wanted to cover it with a lot of cherry blossoms and a lotus. Which is a lighter color.

I believe it can be done. Just remember that anything that covers it will probably end up being slightly larger than what is there now (unless the new tattoo is going to be the exact same shape alone the edges as the old). As far as covering darker colors with lighter ones, that can definitely be done. My friend just got a black tribal thing covered with green and light blue and it looks wonderful. A really good artist should be able to work with you and come up with a design that will cover your old one.
As far as the sensitive skin and the bumps go, that's an iffy situation. You will have to speak to an artist about that to make sure that getting a new tattoo won't further irritate your skin. And if the bumps are very noticable, there's a good chance that they will disrupt the tattooing process. The only thing you can do here is speak to an artist and discuss your options.

The new tattoo wouldnt have to encorporate the old design at all. It would have to be larger than the original design, and definately darker in some spots to cover the bow up. Otherwise, any good artist can discuss with you your options and explain to you exactly what qualities the new tattoo needs to have in order to have a good cover up job.

Yes you should be able to coiver it. I had a tribal design in blue and purple with black blobs on the base of my spine that I've just had covered as part of my back piece. If you go to a good artist and explain what you want done they should be able to help. Normally a cover up will be larger and darker than the original one or they can kind of 'hide' the orginal tattoo under a pattern which is how mine is done (its hidden under the pattern of feathers which are partially filled in with black dots - you really can't see the old tattoo anymore!)

You actually may be able to. I had an idiots name and a flower done when I was 15 and I had it covered up with a unicorn with a flower. It looks really nice and you can not tell it is there. What you need to do is to find a good artist and go in and talk to him/her. They will be able to tell you the truth as well as how to deal with the sensitivity and bumps. I think you have a good chance of fixing it. But be sure to look up someone who has a reputation of being clean and being a good artist. Good luck!

you probably wouldn't be able to cover it with lighter colors. generally you have to cover dark with dark. also the tattoo would have to be considerably darker to do a good job of covering the old tattoo. it is likely that your first tattoo is scarred, which is why it is raised. my first tattoo scarred as well but i had it covered up, you can still feel the scar tho. the best thing to do is go to a talented artist who is good at doing coverup tattoos. have a consultation with them about what would and would not work.

yes if its dark though you will have to opt for a dark tat to cover it up with if not the colours will look faded e.g red will look like pink
tattooes will not be affected by sensitive skin

The phrase is 'spur of the moment', not 'spare of the moment'.
