The Old Testament involves God's dealings with the people of Israel. Besides historical books, it includes books of poetry and prophesy. The New Testament picks up about 300 years after the last book in the Old Testament were written. The first four books, known as the Gospels, deal with the life, death, and ressurection of Jesus. There is one book of history, and then several books which were letters to different churches giveing instruction on the Christian life. the New Testament ends with Revelation, a book of prophecy.

If you live somewhere where you can not easily buy a Bible, you may be able to find a site on the internet where you can get one.

The Bible is God's written Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)

Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books

Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.

27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)

You can buy a bible at any bookstore. If you want something that will break it down look for something like a book called "Pathways through the Bible" this read more like a book and give you a good understanding of the "scriptures in the bible"

The term The Old Testament refers to all versions and translations of the Hebrew Bible and is the first major part of the Bible used by Christians. It is usually divided by Judaism into the categories of law: Torah; prophecy: Neviim; and writings: Kethuvim (history, poetry, wisdom books); as denoted by the acronym Tanakh.

The Protestant Old Testament is for the most part identical with the Jewish Tanakh. The differences between the Tanakh and the Protestant Old Testament are minor, dealing only with the arrangement and number of the books. For example, while the Tanakh considers Kings to be a unified text, the Protestant Old Testament divides it into two books. Similarly Ezra and Nehemiah are considered to be one book by the Tanakh.

The differences between the Tanakh and other versions of the Old Testament such as the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Syriac, Latin, Greek and other works, are greater as some include books not in the Tanakh and even in the books included, some have sections that the others do not. For a full discussion of these differences see Books of the Bible. An important difference, as well, can lie in the language interpretations of various words. Reading directly from Hebrew will provide the most accuracy.

All of these books were written before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, whose teaching and immediate disciples' deeds and teachings are the subject of the subsequent writings of Christian New Testament. The scriptures used by Jesus were according to Luke 24:44–49: "the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms ... the scriptures". According to most Bible scholars, the Old Testament was composed between the 5th century BC and the 2nd century BC, though parts of it, such as parts of the Torah, and the Song of Deborah (Judges 5), probably date back much earlier.

It is known that books of the New Testament as we find them in the Authorized Version (but not in the same order) were circulating in Egypt as early as ad 100. By the end of the second century, most of the New Testament was recognized as apostolic and by the fifth century all of the New Testament was recognized as authoritative. A key is found in II Peter 1:12. Peter writes, "Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things [spiritual truths], though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle [flesh-and-blood body], to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance." Here is a clear implication that Peter would be responsible for making the Truth of God available following his death. What Peter is stating here is that he would be responsible for the preservation of the New Testament Scriptures. This statement, made in or about AD 64, demonstrates that large portions of the New Testament were already regarded as inspired writings. About all that would not be included in these writings were the epistles of John and the book of Revelation, which scholars believe were written between AD 90-100. These were recognized as a part of the New Testament Scripture at a later date. Other spurious or uninspired writings were utterly rejected from the New Testament canon, not even given consideration.

The Old Testament is the part of the Bible that happens before Jesus Christ was born. The New Testament was after he was born.

The Bible is available in any bookstore or library. It's also available online. Sorry, don't remember the url right now and I'm too tired right now to look it up.

You can go to Barnes and Noble they have bibles there, just ask an employee and they'll direct you to them. Also the old testament and the new testament are both in the bible. The old testament is the old covenant under the law of Moses and the new testament is the new covenant which is Grace. We live by Grace because Jesus died for our sins and saved us from eternal death and separation from God.So the old law which never saved was fulfilled by what Jesus did and when we are saved God places his laws in our hearts and in our minds.Grace means unconditional love and forgiveness.

This site has every version of the bible. You can even cross reference the different versions. Most people here like the King James version. Newer versions are easier to understand. Good luck. Take care.

PS. You can also write in words or sentences and it will look up the passages for you so you can read more about it.
