Well the first and obvious reason is to have energy to start the day. If you think about it, it's been several hours since your last meal which was dinner. The second reason is when you skip breakfast, your metabolism slows down because your body goes into "hunger mode". Then when you eat lunch, you are likely to overeat because by then, you're already very hungry.

Breakfast sets up your day... you need to get good nutrition in the morning before anything else to have energy for everything you are going to do in the day. When you have a good breakfast, you will need less at lunch and dinner. Dinner is typically thought of as the largest meal of the day, but if you think about it, that makes no sense - all you do after dinner is sleep.

If you don't like sweet breakfast foods, try something different, like what you might typically eat for lunch. Just because it is recommended that you eat breakfast doesn't mean you need to eat cereal or waffles. Try a sandwich instead!

If any meal is skipped, it shouldn't be breakfast. Since it is the first meal of the day, it will keep you going pretty much until you get more to eat during lunch. If you go to school, you will notice that if you happen to not eat breakfast, you will not only feel very drowsy during the morning hours, but you will have that agonizing low growl in the pit of your stomach until lunchtime, which isn't pleasant at all. I hope you consider this reason! Keep on eating breakfast!!!!!!!!! :)

You literally HAVE to "break" your "fast".

The minute you wake up and get something into your system, your metabolism starts working. Eating breakfast gives you an energy boost for the day and prevents you from overeating during the day.

If that doesn't convince you, how about this statistic: if you eat breakfast, you are 50% less likely to become obese.

Good choices for breakfast:

- Bowl of oats with milk & honey
- Wholewheat toast with peanut butter
- A poached egg on wholewheat -with a tomato
- Muesli with low fat yoghurt & banana

Make your breakfast up from good foods like complex carbs (oats, wholewheat bread etc), protein (eggs, yoghurt, milk etc) and even fruit if you like (bananas, apples etc).

Sustained work, especially mental requires a large turnover of brain glucose and its metabolic components. Our brain (and central nervous system) runs on glucose - that's the fuel we need to do anything, be it to think, to walk or to talk.

Research has shown that breakfast helps to replenish blood glucose levels in the brain, which has no reserves of glucose, (its main source of energy) and needs to be constantly restocked. It has been found to provide us with better strength and stamina in the late mornings, giving a better attitude toward work.

When you skip breakfast, for your brain to function normally, your body has to work extra hard to break down any stored carbohydrate or turn fat or protein into a usable form of food for the brain. This puts an extra load on the brain, which in any case has to work continuously.

Skipping breakfast never lets youre body get its metabolism going. It will then grave fats and carbs all day thinking its in starve mode.

You have to put fuel in the tank (breakfast) to get the car moving (metabolism)
