Read something uplifting and inspirational.Steer clear of the news right before you go to bed(I just re-read your question and its meaning is a little unclear)Have some time to yourself before you go to bed to take a bath, clear your mind and get comfy and cozy, however if your negative thinking is due to relationship issues.......you may want to take some time to think about the "why" and work on doing whatever it is that needs to be done so you aren't feeling negative.I would rather be alone then with someone I'm miserable with.

I have that problem. I try to think about good things...if I can't I just don't sleep until I get so tired I can't stay awake. Try listening to happy music or reading a happy book. Don't listen or read anything depressing because it will make it worse. You might want to try an anti depressant. It helps me some.
I once had a therapist tell me to visualize the bad feelings inside of me as a bright color. Start at the top of your head and gather it there in a blob and move it down your body as it gathers everything negative. when it reaches your fingers and toes let it flow out of the tips. It does help if you can keep the vision in your head.

Yes you can.....Here is what you need to do. Close your eyes(not now or you won't be able to read the rest of this) Then slowly breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.. Will doing this start to picture a ( here is where it gets personal) I use a scene from a place in Yosemite National Park. For you it could be something else. Like a meadow full of colorful flowers and you are lying on a blanket under a tree. Continue to breathe through your nose and out your mouth...As you lie there you can hear birds chirping ..The sky is bright blue and there are big white clouds floating by.....In the distance you hear a babbling brook or small stream you can hear the water flowing and the birds chirping. ....Somewhere along the edge of the meadow there are orange trees and as the breeze blows by it carries the scent of oranges with it.... Continue breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.....As you do this you will feel yourself begin to relax and soon you will be off to sleep

Get ready to sleep with the blanket on your body and then read a good book, magazine etc but the subject should not be tragical. It should be a good article. Nothing else will come to your mind and also you will soon fall asleep. Try this tonight and also take my good night and sweet dreams.

This is why some people say prayers before bed and give thanks for all the good things/counting blessings in their lives.
