I do not commit crimes, as my inner peace and well being are very important to me. However, as a Pagan Atheist, I would make restitution with the people involved, turn myself in, do the time, meditate and reflect upon my inner self to discover what caused my lapse in judgment. No imaginary friend needed.

Well we do have morals and ethics, Christians don't have the only game in town regarding that. How would anyone restore inner peace after not being caught? I mean depending on the severity of the crime, I can only say I would probably be so guilt-ridden that I would do what ever I could to make it right, including turn myself in.

depends on the person,, atheism only means you lack of belief in deities. so what you do believe can be almost anything. an anarchist or nihilist atheist would not care. i;m atheist, and I try to do good, leave a positive impact, so over a small crime, I'd feel guilty, depending on the crime, i'd come clean or find some way to make up for it.
one thing is for sure, definitely NOT by praying

Committing a crime is simply not logical, considering the possible consequences ( through law and society). As a atheist I value logic and rational thought.
Other than the exemption of unjust laws....I see no rational reason to commit a crime.
If for some reason one would commit a crime where there is a "victim". Then common sense would allow for remorse and reconciliation with all parties involved to ensure normal function of society.

Atheists, unlike religious people, choose to be moral for the sake of doing good things, not because a god told us we need to repent in order to get into heaven. Atheists restore inner peace as anyone else would - by coming to psychological terms with your action and take any necessary steps to repair your damage. Religious people do this too, they just call it god and sin and forgiveness.

Actually most people rationalize anti-social behavior right after they commit the act so they can deal with themselves (this is why suspects usually aren't polygraphed several days after commission of a crime, they've usually convinced themselves by then that what they did was justified and they show up as telling the truth on the machine!).
But to answer your question, like all people we get racked with guilt and have to live with it and we mark it down as a mistake.
We chalk it up to experience and don't do it again (if avoidable).

I would not want to do those things. I think they are harmful to society. Not all atheists are similar, but I would feel better by contributing more to society to make up for the damage. In the instances you hurt yourself such as denying your education by cheating and drinking under age, you can only learn from those mistakes.

I don't think its an issue. If one does anything disreputable long enough it not only becomes callous (without feeling) but becomes a need. Now please don't get me wrong! Atheists are not stereotypically disreputable! I know a few that have better morals than I. I'm just responding to the crime portion of your question. BIG SMILES

They don't usually commit a crime. Those that do most likely don't care so there was no loss of inner peace. It works the same for atheists as it does for those with a religious view.

personally i dont think they can i mean really who do they answer to and what concequence is there for them? I mean God has sent us the Holy spirit that dwells within those that accept HIm.. The holy spirit is our consience our guide through life to help us with right from wrong. The holy spirit IS our inner peace. So i dont believe that an athiest can restore inner peace alone.
Thats my opnion.
