Religion is the creation of a mythological language that allows people to discuss their spiritual experiences in a common way. When it brings out the best in someone it amplifies their spritual experience, this is good. Sadly, this is not the only possible outcome....

Funny how many say religion is fine unless it tries to change the law.
As if all laws were perfect in conception and execution.
Seems no one heard of Gandhi and how his religious convictions led to the wide-spread use of passive resistance to change laws deemed unjust.
If not for his religious convictions, India would still be part of the British Empire and self-government would only be realized by violent revolution.
The American Revolution was not based on a non-religious doctrine, but rather that God grants every person the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, the laws of kings notwithstanding.
Indeed, the end of Roman Catholic supremacy over Europe was not brought about by atheists, but by Protestants (note the root word: "protest").
However, there -is- one religion that brings out the best in everyone: Love.
Faith in Love, and choosing to live for Love, brings out the best in a human.
It is the Fear in a religion that fails to promote the best in humans.

True religion should bring out the best in most people because some will not listen to the truth even then but there is a religion that brings out the best in people world wide, it's people love each other have no racial national or colour barriers and they spread love amongs themselves as well as ecveryone else. Why? Because they follow God's Word and the Example of Jesus the son of God.

Yes, religion is wrong. How do you know it brings out the best? There may be better yet! Religion will always be wrong for in it lies the seeds of superiority against others, and that can never be right. Religion is rules, dogma, arrogance, ignorance and the end. Once you have chosen a religion, you have stunted your growth and your choices. You have taken a definative stance....which will always be in opposition to someone else's stance.
Choose spirituality instead. A personal, living, growing, changing dynamic path that is personal and personalized. Whether Atheist or Theist in nature, spirituality is limitless. Whereas religion is the very definition of limited.

No, if something brings out good qualities in a person it is good. I think the real question though, is what is the ultimate outcome of life? That is where I think we get into right and wrong.
Jesus says that He is the only way to get to Heaven. That, by definition, means that any other way is wrong if you are to believe what He said. I haven't heard of any other religion that is like that. I think that most are based on works. Do enough good deeds and you get to go to heaven or wherever that particular religion believes in.
Good deeds are great here on earth and I commend all who try to live that way. But in the end, where do your good deeds get you? Jesus says nowhere. We are all sinful by nature and only can be saved by the blood of Christ. They are 2 very different views on how to get to Heaven. They can't both be right.

I don't believe in religion. Religion can't do anything for you except provide you with a set of rules to follow. The only thing that can make a difference and bring out the best in a person's life is a personal relationship with Jesus.

A religion just is. It is not right or wrong. And if any religion makes someone a better person, HURRAY for that person AND that religion.
But there is a deeper question here. That is, is there only one religion that delivers on the promise of religions, i.e., salvation (or enlightenment or reincarnation, whatever they believe).
For me to believe in my own end result, I HAVE to believe it is the right and only way. And I do. As should everyone else of their religion. If they don't, they should consider whether they truly believe in what they are associated with.

Religion is welcome in the right circumstances. It's how we deal with tragedy. Death of a loved one, a horrible illness, after a divorce, things like this are where religion serves a purpose.
It goes wrong when people in the religion abuse others. Cult leaders are renowned for preying on people during their time of crisis. And no one intentionally goes into those groups thinking that they will be hurt.
My problem with religion is that kind of abuse. The killer cults make the headlines. More routine abuses in the name of God are routinely accepted by a lot of mainstream religions. And they don't make the headlines.
That's where religion goes wrong in my opinion.

Yes. Even if a religion brings people contentment, happiness, hope, community, and health, its factual claims about the world could still absolutely be wrong.
But I don't think that's the case for most religions. I recognize that religion brings people a lot of great things, but I don't understand why the good of religion can't be extracted from the bad.

Religion is right. I believe in God myself and I am sure that most religious people are honest in their belief (no matter their religion). It can give you hope and support to believe.
Now unfortunately a tiny minority gets indoctrinated by hate because of false religious leaders who use the religion to reach some evil goal. They give religion a bad name.
