Arm ourselves and shoot them first.

Life is not 100% risk free and I hope we don't desolve into a society where we are all so afraid of what is coming around the corner that everyone starts arming themselves. I think instead of all the hype I am hearing about "the evil" behind the Va Tech shootings it would be more productive to try and learn how the shooter evolved into the person that decided it was acceptable to release his anger and resentments in this horrible way. I don't think he was simply an evil person - extremely troubled, isolated and very likely mentally ill. We see this in so many of these types of crimes - very different from murders such as Ted Bundy. It's disturbing that he was able to get a gun despite his history and that now I am hearing people ranting that if only the faculty and students had been allowed to carry a concealed weapon, oblivious of the fact that Cho was a student who had a weapon. He is certainly by no mean the only student at Tech or any other campus who is disgruntled, blames others for his problems, and experiences suicidal and homocidal fantasies. The solutions I am reading and hearing right now in the aftermath of this tragedy are very disturbing. I hear very little about the possible need for us to become a kinder, more tolerant, and compassionate society.

Hopefully the bill in Congress aimed at stopping people from purchasing handguns who are deemed dangerous by therapists and previous offenses will help somewhat, if it keeps violent rampages to a minimun, something positive will come out, out of what happened in Virginia Tech, though there were similar killings in NASA by bad performance review and an apartment complex by an eviction notice, the only similarity is all 3 instances the perpetrator killed himself, but the 1st instance was a person who had been bullied and mistreated from Middle School to High School, instead of reaching out to him( now I don't excuse Cho) but had the latter been done, maybe a different course of action would have been taken by him, the other perpetrators had no such excuses other than chips on their shoulders, these last 2 where American White males, so much for your racial profiling by some of you on this board.

Old Chinese Saying goes something like this..
"A crazy man can slit 50 throats in one night"

Mass killings like this one in Virgina have been going on for all of recorded history.

It may not be worse now. No one knows for sure.

Why would a person turn on his own community ?
Just crazy I guess.
The rampage record was in Texas at that cafeteria.
That guy had a crush on a girl(s) that wanted nothing to do with him.
Not much of a reason is it ?

Before Texas it was a McDonald's in San Diego County.
He was really crazy.
"going out to hunt humans" he told his abused wife.

For what it's worth.. I don't think they are increasing.

Bad news is.. We can't stop them from trying.

Most of the rampage killings, if not all, are undertaken by the mentally ill. We ration mental health care in our society. As a result, not enough is done to deter future mass murderers.

You can't the people that go over the edge, no matter what you try. All you can hope for is that someone is there with a weapon of their own to stop the killing. I can't understand the liberal thinking that disarming everyone will solve the problems, the criminals and the mental will still be able to get guns.

This guy who murdered all those students at Virginia Tech passed all the criminal background checks. How do you propose it stops if he and others are able to do what was required by law before purchased.

It's already determined that if one is willing to risk being killed, they will go out and kill.

Pablo - Students at Virginia tech tried to help that kid. They tried to include him, and befriend him. He wanted nothing to do with them. Even a teacher there tried to talk him into going to counseling, and brought it up to others to encourage him to go seek counseling. All their hands were tied. Because outside of a Judges order to do so - no one can force another into or to seek counseling. Although they probably could have used his stalking behavior to have him go before a judge and have it so ordered, they chose not to.

It seems like people from other countries have been "offing " the whites lately. i.e. Muslims in 911 and the Korean nerd that killed all of thoes white people. Of course typical American whiety will just look up in the sky and wonder "why". Instead of limiting the amount of people into this country so they can't use WHITE people for target practice.

This is one of the prices of living in a free and open society. You have choices; you can hide at home, you can buy protection or you can defend yourself. I have friends and family in England where when a burglar breaks into their home all they can do is make them a cup of tea, because you can't even hit them with a baseball bat.

we need to let people carry guns not make them carry but give them a choice. If just 1 or 2 people are carrying a gun in a class or a business it would be enough to stop the mass killings.Short of that we can keep hoping the police may enter the building fast enough to save someone.

Correct the education system with living words of our creator in one new universal language and one speech not with ghostly and deadly words from the graveyards of failures and horrors of the past in planet of apes.
