I sometimes have problems with a flaky scalp, and dandruff shampoos make me itchier. Try mixing 1/4 cup of cider vinegar with a gallon of water, then rinsing your hair in that (it's best if you can dunk your whole head into it). Chamomile tea also helps me.

I don't think it's actually harmful, unless you start getting sores and one of those gets infected. But it's annoying, and other people look at you funny.

Too much showering can also give you a dry flaky scalp. Unless your hair is *very* oily, you might try shampooing just every two or three days. Rinse it with water on the other days.

You may have more than dandruff. Could be seborrhea, psoriasis, or excema. If you can, see a physician or preferably dermatologist to be diagnosed. They can recommend what to use.

Zinc, tar, and salicylic acid are common ingredients in shampoos used to treat the above conditions. If you are not getting help from the usual Head and Shoulders or other anti-dandruff shampoos, move to the medicated area of the shampoo aisle and start trying things, such as TGel, TSal, MG217, Ionil, Sebex, P&S, Denorex, etc.

Dandruff is one of the major disorders of the scalp.Poor hygiene, improper diet ,sluggish condition of the scalp caused by poor blood circulation are the main causes of dandruff. A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water.
