My son let one of the cats in yesterday and they started fighting bad. Fur everywhere. One cat had a bite on him and I took him to the vet. They are brothers from the same litter they are almost 2 years old and have been toghether since. I don't think my other cat bite him but I really don't know, they have never fought like that before, just playing, now they start hissing everytime they see each other. Not sure if the unhurt one was trying to clean the wound and it just freaked out on him and the hurt one is just freaking cuz he is hurt??????? Do cats just turn on each other?

Are you saying that one cat had a bite wound BEFORE they started fighting? You kind of jumped around a lot, so I'm not sure if the bite wound was there before.

If it was, it's possible that the cat that went to the vet had the smell of the vet on him. It's very common for two cats that love each other dearly to act strange if one goes to the vet and not the other. It's because the one that left has all of the strange smells of the vet office. Cats use smell and pheromones far more than people do.

Cats can certainly turn on each other, but if they were litter mates and were raised together, it's not likely. I assume that since they are 2 years old, that you have already had them neutered. If not, they would have started acting aggressively toward each other over a year ago when they became sexually mature. More than likely the hurt cat is acting out. Cats have an instinctive need to hide any injuries or illness because it puts them at a disadvantage in the wild. And they will lash out and act aggressively if someone else tries to go near them as a matter of survival. Unfortunately, this behavior continues now even though they are domesticated animals and this is why it's very hard sometimes to know when a cat is sick.

Two of my male cats often get into a real fight with each other. Both are neutered, but I think they are still both trying to be the alpha male. The strangest thing is, they take turns at starting the fight, so there really is no main aggressor. I simply clap my hands and shout NO in a loud voice, and they normally stop. If that doesn't work, and they are too involved in it, I spray them, and put them in separate locations for a while. All of my cats also show aggression to one who has just come from the vet, or who is sick. It's as if they don't recognize the smell of their brother/sister for a while. Things normally settle down after a while though, and go back to normal, which is mayhem anyway with 12 cats, 2 dogs and a pig!

Either one will becomee dominant and the other fade into the background, or one will kill the other. Often brothers work together to defend a territory, but it sounds like they are both alpha cats. Cat fights are serious and often to the death. Not like dogs - cats mean it. Ask your vet. Both animals should be fixed by the way ASAP because usually the end for unfixed male cats is a fight down the road. That's how they naturally are - like little lions.

Get very angry with both of them and have a glass of water at hand, if they get really bad and you see blood could come, use the water on them, they should get tired of getting a shower every time they try to kill each other and eventually stop.

The other possibility is that one of your cats went out and got sprayed by a full adult cat (that still has family jewels on it) The other cat will consider the smell a threat, so maybe the problem was that. In this case the cat needs a bath so the threatening smell will go away from it.

not usually...maybe one smelled something on the other from the outdoors, he may have met with another cat? They should be fine, after a few days. if it doesnt stop, give the outdoor one a bath, and let him dry in a room with a closed door, and gradually let them by eachother again!

Let one IN? WTH was it doing outside in the first place? Neuter them all first of all and work on being a responsible pet owner and keep them Inside... until then keep them separated INDOORS.

Get both cats neutered.

Get a new pet, maybe a puppy, for them to love.

are they fixed? if they are not.. they could have aggression towards eachother because of territory etc.. if you get them neutered.. that may solve the problem and try keeping them in the house......
