When people crave ice it's usually because they are dehydrated.

Someone told me a long time ago that it means you have pica if eat ice but I don't know if this is true or not. See http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/emotions/behavior/pica.html for an explanation of pica.

I'm not quite sure but some people do it when their gums hurt. But my mother and I have the same problem for no real reason.
