I still am amazed at how many "sheep" there are out in the world. Those of you who are convinced that humans are having that much of an effect on "global warming" are obviously not educated enough to do the research yourself. While I don't fully agree that humans have no effect on the warming, I certainly can't buy into the idea that we have that much of an effect, considering the preponderance of evidence out there stating otherwise. Mr. Gore "conveniently" leaves much out of his arguments. Most of these contradictions concern timing, which he has a way of glossing over. I'm not even going to try and convince any of you of anything. What I am going to do is tell you to look at the sources of the information that you read and rationally analyze the arguments for both sides. As a doctor, I make my living doing research for my patients. Those of you that have unquestionable faith in the scientists who adhere to this idea of global warming are probably the same people who believe their doctor when he tells them which pharmaceutical drug to take. You do it on blind faith. What you don't consider is that pharmaceutical drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S. and we accept that it's "ok" because it's saving so many lives. And, by the way, that statistic is according to the Journal of American Medicine. Talk about calling a spade, a spade. (Oh, crap, I better check my backyard and make sure Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton didn't hear me say that outloud)
People, the point is this: don't take what you read at face-value. Use the brain your were given. You don't have to be a scientist to understand the weaknesses in the evidence (on both sides).
All this makes me wonder what was going on centuries ago when records show increasing temperatures. Were those Knights in Shining armor jousting in Chevy's and Fords? If you look at the "scientific facts" that one of the posters here linked, you will see that the association between any and all of the factors show varying degrees of association in any given period of time. It is real easy to pull out statistics from this data that suits your particular argument. Just as Al Gore did showing the pictures of those poor, stranded polar bears. He's taken a little bit of evidence and blown it up to suit his argument.
While I do think we should be concerned about what is going into our atmosphere, I am not concerned about it's effect on warming as much as I'm concerned about what it is doing to our lungs. I have more concern about what our "health" (yeah, right) care model is doing to increase our health.
This is your wake-up call! Find out the truths in life by doing your own careful research. Quit being sheep, damn it!

The science is there that shows the world is warming. The major issue according to the media is who or what is to blame for the rise. That is the wrong question, the fact is that the world temperature has been rising gradually over the last 30 years and the evidence is there to be found. Can it be dangerous, yes it can. In the next 20 years there is an estimated 3 foot rise at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This amount of sea level raise could inundate thousands of acres of property and it could portentially inundate the entire river delta up to Sacramento and Stockton because there are islands that are up to 20 feet below sea level and that is 550,000 acres of prime farmland. It could be much worse if the Greenland, Russian and Antarctic ice sheets melted. Here's where it gets interesting:
Global warming could cause:
Droughts and floods
Coastal inundations that could reach 20 feet if the major icesheets melt or
The onset of a new ice age caused by the blockage of the ocean currents that bring warm tropical water up to the north so the fresh water would freeze.
There is a lot of science left to do on what can happen but there is no doubt that the problem is real

I definately feel it is a threat. Have you looked into it yourself? Check out Al Gore's movie. It speaks loud and clear. Evidence is all around us. Why not change our way of living? Our rate of consumtion? Why not provide alternative energy sources? We should be more independent as a nation. We can come up with solutions but we have to work together. Whether you believe it or not then what is the harm in insisting on cars that are more efficient? Preserving the planet or environment around us is not a fad its a responsibility. Even if we aren't here in fifty years from now its our duty to take care of and nuture not, to destroy the natural habitats. What about your children? Don't they deserve a chance? You can't honestly think that when fossil fuels are burned off, at their current rate with the number of people on this planet, that it isn't having an impact. We should be concerned. Enviromental destruction is not a fashion it is a crime. Its not the everyday people that have the knowledge regarding this matter. It is up to the people in decision making positions to implement alternatives to protect the lifes and the natural surroundings of the inhabitants of this earth. I can only hope that those people view this issue as important and not become clouded by those who are in this purely for profit. It is the obligation of those who are knowledgable to bring fourth a change. The changes should take into consideration the impacts and the facts. Environmental studies are done for a reason. We should trust in the scientific data and then put into place a plan of action to address those concerns. We should make our world a better with our technology. Its a responsibilty that shouldn't be taken lightly. We have all the ingredients for life on our planet, their is a balance of elements. Like anything living when you upset this balance something else will happen like a chain reaction. Why not make sure we are the link in the chain that is the strongest, not the weakest. We are the only creatures that can make a difference. We have everything to loose if we don't.

Global warming is a far more serious threat than many people percieve it to be, which is evident by many people who answered this question. Some people may think they know everything, they have no idea what they are talking about, global warming is caused by CO2 because it is what is known as a "greenhouse gas" this means that it traps more sunlight, and causes the temperature of the earth to rise as a result, now when the temperature gets high enough it will cause enough of the fresh water to mix into the salt water that the oceans currents will be altered, causing a huge economic disaster, much like humans, and soon after a second ice age will occur, this would have happened naturally, but it would have taken far longer. People, open your eyes, global warming is a threat now and it will continue to be one well into the future. People are not doing much to correct this trend, and many people are still ignorant to the causes and effects of global warming.

They think global warming is going to cause everything from cats and dogs sleeping together to the return of the Staypuft Marshmallow Man. We've had more extreme temperature swings in the past two thousand years and we got through it just fine even without modern technology.
The belief that CO2 causes global warming is total baloney. CO2 follows the temperature. It doesn't lead it. That means that the global temperature drives the CO2 levels. The thing responsible for the global warming and cooling trends is sunspot activity. They have compared global temperature vs. sunspot activity and they match way better than CO2. CO2 has about an 800 year delay in level change following global temperature change.
There's lots of money to be made in this big scare tactic. Remember in the 70s when the scare was the next ice age?
I sure hope people don't start voting for stupid CO2 legislation. That's the biggest danger.

No, no and no.
The global warming that most people today believe is a farcical fantasy. The only reason that so many scientists "seem" to support this is because this is the story that the politicos and major media have attached themselves to. The real inconvenient truth is that people may have contributed minutely to the production of "greenhouse gases" but our earth itself and it's natural processes contribute billions of billions the amounts of these "greenhouse gases" that are supposedly going to destroy the earth as we know it. Whatever the case may be, you will never know whether or not you have been lied to because while you may be doing everything possible to reduce your "carbon footprint" now, you WILL DIE long before anything truly noticable and extreme ever happens. Your government and the United Nations are seeking to destroy the society that you know, and you can jot down in your little journal that you helped them do it, and for no good reason at all.

No, while I'm all for protecting the planet I believe global warming is a political tool that plays to people's emotions and gets people into office. Not one single climatologist agrees that global warming is even real. They call it a scam. Listening to any other scientist talk about global warming (other than one who studys CLIMATE for a living) is like asking a car mechanic to fix your toilet when it overflows. Wouldn't you rather trust a plumber?
Again, I have no problem being environmentally friendly. But there is no crisis. Even if there was, the people blaming American for it are full of BS. America has the toughest restricitons on emissions. Other countries don't have restrictions, they go around riving cars and running factories with no filters or anything. I hate how we get blamed for everything now.

Polar Bear Hoax: The photos that Al Gore used were lifted and taken out of context. The polar bears that everyone is talking about are in actuality flourishing!!!
The polar bear population is at its highest point on record! Poor polar bears? Get your facts straight.
The planet may be warming, but humans have nothing to do with it. It has been warmer before humans, and it has been colder before humans. The last 100 years of data all of these "junk scientists" are looking at is a fraction of a fraction of the age of the planet.
Also, it is a fad. The generation that is buying into this crap are the ones that don't remember the "Coming Ice Age" back in the 70's. So the media can sell new crap to a new crowd that doesn't know they are full of it yet.

I don't think global warming is a threat because that would indicate that global warming is in the future.
Though I believe it will be much worse in the future, much, much, .... we see it already. Are you aware that we are already finding polar bears drowned in the Arctic because they can't find a decent piece of ice to climb up on. One polar bear was spotted 60 miles from the nearest suitable ice. And, no, the bear was not lost. Sea ice is breaking up, and the bears are drowning. Tell a dead bear there is no global warming.
I've commented before that people who think this issue is alarmist need only wait. No person will have to convince you. Circumstances will convince you.

There is scientific *evidence* but not not proof. You shouldn't need proof to be willing to do some good for the environment. Whether it's real or not we still need to make some serious changes with the way we treat the Earth. For example we have to stop treating the sky like a sewer, and put an end to pollution.
